Heading back to the US next year and seriously considering a few nights back in Vegas for our 3rd trip there. Has anyone flown internally from NY or Boston to Vegas & back - and if so who did you use (and did you have any probs booking an internal US flight from the UK)? Just looking for internal flight recommendations. Thanks!

we've not flown from NY or Boston - but we've done open jaw trips from a few other cities...worth looking at that option - so UK to NY - NY to Vegas - Vegas to UK or similar...rather than UK to NY - NY to Vegas - Vegas - NY and NY to UK...depending on the carrier we have booked all trips on one ticket (AA)...or booked the international flights separate to the internal flight...we've regularly done LON-ORD and LAS-LON (usually Virgin) and booked the internal flight separately we normally price things up using kayak or similar - then usually book with the airline's website directly.

We have done this, flew with continental to Newark (not our choice, that just happened to be where the first flight went) had a 5hour wait then onto Vegas. We stayed in Vegas for a week then took a flight (again with continental) from vegas back to newark. We stayed in NY another week then flew back with Continental to Manchester.

I used Expedia to book flights only, it was a tricky trip and I had never booked multiple flights etc so I didnt really know any better so not sure if I could have got it cheaper shopping about. As it was, it came in at £586 total per person for all those flights so I was happy with that anyway! The multiple stop option on Expedia will at least give you an idea of costs to compare. Also, I felt a bit better doing it in one like that as im not sure we would have been allowed the same baggage allowance on the internal flights as we were on the trans atlantic legs had we booked separately, which definitely would have caused us an issue!

In our case - either Virgin or AA's .co.uk website...can't remember if we ever did this when we were still loyal Continental customers but possibly.

We first did it when we discovered that the cost of an open-jaw ticket wasn't much more than a simplr return...with having family in the US and visiting them once a year, this worked well for us as previously we had just assumed airfare would be extortionate if we arrived from one city and departed from another...so we did 2 trips - 1 for family, 1 for Vegas...now we combine family and Vegas on the family trip.

Most sites let you search for multiple destinations - we use kayak or expedia to start, but since we've mostly narrowed our preference down to Virgin or AA we will now generally just check the 2...AA is better for us when we're visiting family first as they have a flight that lands in Chicago about 10 am...so AA is our normal default now for the family then Vegas trips.

And I should have said - when we don't book the internal leg on the same ticket (the ORD->LAS leg) it's not dangerous for us as we have a few days near Chicago before catching the ORD->LAS flight...not sure if I would do it this way if that wasn't the case - I would be too worried about missing the connection and neither airline having to sort it out for us as it wasn't booked as a through ticket.
