    I didn't think the house had any edge in poker...not an edge as such...I thought they just took a rake of the pot? Do you actually play against the casino - I thought you played against other players? Am I just confused? ;)

    sorry yes you are ferf, this is a table game played on a similar sort of table to blackjack. Odds on getting a royal flush in normal poker is close to 650,000/1, the odds hitting one are same in table poker but they pay out a small fraction of the true odds.

    The house edge when playing these games does vary depending on the type being played from 5% to 8% with some of the bonus bets being up to 48%.

    There are better and worse games to play in a casino, the worst overall is keno with a house edge of at least 25%, but who hasn't run a few dollars on the keno when eating breakfast.

    Just seen this deal on TravelZoo - thinking of going with it, if anyone has any experience it would help;
    $99 -- Palms: Dinner for 2 at Simon w/Club Access, Reg. $291

    Any thoughts on if its a good offer??

    be careful, there was something similar to this recently. The tax & tip expected (not included) will probably be based on the normal price of $291

    Ah, right...I didn't read the original post properly...it's been a long day.

    And stoneman - we have a short break next month...but no more holiday to try to squeeze in another trip to the US before the fall. :(
    Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    This is very similar to the deal a few weeks ago, and thanks to Luci who told us that we would have to pay the tax and gratuity on the "reg price" it didn't seem so good so a couple of us at least canceled.
    The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

    Cheers guys, I got it from another board and posted the same comment about the tax and tip :) its the only thing thats been holding me back.

    Looking at Simons menu though the dinner looks like it should only cost $120 for two people so not sure how they come to the $291 figure

    You hit the nail on the head there. I phoned up the other place that had a similar deal and they said that meal would cost $200 for the 2, but the value was put at over $300 with the club access. I was told that the waiter would require the tax on the $300 and a gratuity of course.
