Must admit some of the reviews i've read about Riviera have made me nervous as last time we had an amazing room with best view of the strip and free upgrade at TI. We didnt really choose Riviera, it worked out cheaper with travel agents to book flight with riviera included then if we booked flights on there own, so free rooms may explain that!

Sorry but I think you have made the wrong choice with the Riv, Room quality will not be like you had last time and the location isnt great (altho i guess it is similar to where you were last time)

have aread of of Paul Carrs check in experience just a few days ago, or dont read if you dont want to be put off.

I am a naturally shy person - I don't mind crowds, lights, parties and people, but the thought of the $20 trick terrifies me!

So to calm my nerves has anyone any experience of using it at the Paris Hotel?

Have done it twice at Paris, both times asked for a fountain view, and both times been succesful after being told it should be $x extra per night.

Also both times got the room at about 1030am

Oh how I have missed this forum. Last trip to vegas was November, stayed in the mirage had an amazing time and got engaged!! Didn't think we would be able to afford it this year so deleted forum off my favorites when I got back :( HOWEVER just booked to go for a week in October. So excited been sat here for about an hour reading the latest posts! We are staying in Excalibur this time, trying to go on a budget however got quite a good deal on a widescreen room which looks ok. Has anyone stayed in one of these recently?

    Nice to be back

The 2nd time myself and DH went to Vegas, we picked the Riveria. We booked in ok and the room was clean, but it had a really old, basic feeling and stunk of mustiness and stale tobacco, even though it was supposed to be a non-smoking room.
The staff were friendly enough, but just seemed rather dull and depressing and combined with the fact that it was the middle of November and most of the time it rained, it just wasn't very pleasant. The casino was ok but that was about it. At the end of our stay we got charged $40 for using the heater in the room, because it was rather cold at night and the radiator was tiny for a room that size.
At the end of the day, it was a place to lay your head, but we stayed at the Sahara before and then Circus Circus after and both were far more comfortable than the Riveria. It's a pity it's sahara that's closing instead of Riveria tbh.
Circus Circus doesn't appeal to a lot of people because its more for families (we don't have any children, but it didn't put us off) and it's supposed to be a bit more rowdy, but we had more problems with noise at Riveria than CC.
I'm sorry to put a bit of a downer on the place, but it really was a bit of a let down for us, there are far nicer places to stay than here.

Some quick questions regarding the deuce. Is is possible to buy the 24h passes on the bus or do we need to get them at Ticket Vending machines? Further, my dad will need to be in a wheel chair, is there enough space to get him into the bus or is the deuce to small for that?

    Thanks!

The 24 hour pass can be bought on the Deuce. There is a designated space for wheelchairs on all the buses, and they have automatic ramps too. We were very pleased with the facilities for disabled people there.

Thank you all for your honest replies.. i think we may look into a different hotel as it had already crossed my mind which is why i thought i'd ask here. I know its just a place to sleep but after such a fantastic time last time i think i'd always be comparing it to the TI.

I quite like the Riviera -I've stayed there twice and got upgraded both times but honestly dolly from what you've said I think you're right -it may not be for you ! I don't think you'd like the location and would do better something more central to the Strip.

The MGM buffet has a good selection of desserts.
Thanks for the reminder, yes I would second that. Also on the lunch buffet there is a large sandwich making section. Top recommendation:beer:
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I guess that's where the Buffet of Buffets wins-you could do a dessert break at one of the buffets and not feel you werent getting full value ;)
Now there is the best use of the BOB that I have heard of.;)
