AugustThe room was not made up when we got there stuff was all over the place and it felt just not what you should expect when you walk into a room. To be fiar housekeeping came and sorted it out but we had problems though the week where housekeeping had not done their job properly. I dont want you to think that we are whingers as this is the only time that I can remember where we have had to call housekeeping to complain in over 40 visits to Las Vegas.
The biggest issue we had with Venetian though was the weeken clientele I was at the time 38 and my wife 40 we are up for a laugh like a drink and staying up late (oh those were the pre baby dayswe enjoy gambling we are not high rollers though. The weekend clintele in Venetian and Palazzo were groups of drunk twenty somthing Californians that thought that they were all rock stars arrogant drunk and loud.
I know that reports can be a mine field and different people have different views of places and want different things we will not stay there again without the baby probably stay at Mirage or Bellagio with the baby probably stay with our friends but if we had to stay in a hotel woudl be MGM which we love
I seem to remember you posting this at the time, if it wasnt you someone else posted similar about the Venetian or Pallazo.
I agree though, i have spent a few weekends in Vegas, the worst one by far was at Pallazzo for exact same reason...drunk 20 somethings and the poor room service.0 -

Sorry, but I disagree. There is a huge difference in the standard of the "basic" rooms and you do get what you pay for. You can't say that the basic room in the IP and Encore are similar.
The Plaza has been closed for ages.Kenny-Powers wrote: »
At the weekend turn up rates are $250+
No-one on this board would ever "turn up" and pay rack rate.
If you stick around you might learn a few things.0 -
We like The Frontier. Room service sucks though.illegitimi non carborundum0

Your condescending attitude aside I think you know what I meant, but I will explain - Just for you
Every hotel has a standard room, it may have a different name and price but it is the same. On the strip there are budget hotels, mid range and then high end hotels. The majority of rooms are mid range rooms.
So as an example the standard room at say the MGM, is a similar standard to that of the Luxor, NYNY etc..
Your little comment about "no one paying the rack rate" is wrong. Ill bet there are quite a few people who turn up in Vegas on a West Coast fly drive.
Stick around and you might learn from me.

MayI believe the quote was:No-one on this board would ever "turn up" and pay rack rate.
key point being 'on this board'
Yes I don't doubt there are some silly people in the world who turn up and pay rack rate, but no one in their right mind who's been on this board would ever consider it, so it's not really a price for comparison on here.Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard0 -

And to label those who turn up as 'silly' is ridiculous. Not everyone is as clued up in regards to travel. Some people for example may like the flexibility of turn up rates.
Sorry, but that doesn't make sense - anyone who reads this board will be well aware of the perils of turning up in Vegas without a reservation - it is silly...and 'flexbility of turn up rates' in Vegas normally means 'take what you can get and pay over the odds for it'. So for the purposes of those who post here, rack rates will almost never come into play...and if they do, people will be expecting to pay a small fortune. Some may get lucky, most won't.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
MayOh well we don't see trolls on this board very often but the blindingly daftness of his "advice" did at least make me laugh.
Taking it at face value I'm not even sure how you'd define a "standard" room -to some it'd be the cheapest room a hotel offers-to others a mid range priced room. Caesars is a good example of this -I wouldn't touch their classic rooms with a bargepole and I'd define them as their cheap rooms and a Forum tower to be their "standard" room-so it's not a clear definition. Take the Imperial Palace -their middle price room is like a motel room-poor beds-very basic rooms -moved up to the Flamingo and the "deluxe" room is the standard room -and although a bit tired is in another catagory completely. Using the poster's criteria Circus Circus and Mandalay Bay are "the same".
At the moment if I wanted a cheap couple of nights midweek I'd be looking at the Riv as they seem to be comping everyone and his dog and their renovated rooms are nice-plus you still get the "Old Vegas" feel without having to stay on Freemont to get it (I like Freemont Street but I wouldn't want to stay down there as most of what I want to do is on the Strip)
Best advice for anyone who wants to not book at all until the day is to use Priceline anyway (about the ONLY circumstance I'd recommend PL for Vegas -I love PL but not for a usual Vegas booking)Kenny-Powers wrote: »

My, this particular board really is a pedantic little place.
If you want pedantic -Let me point you to the name of this forum "Moneysaving Expert" to turn up on spec in moneysaving terms *is* silly as apart from very exceptional circumstances the guest will pay through the nose for their room. In the same way as someone paying top tariff for their gas or electricity is silly if they don't want to switch to a better value tariff. The whole ethos of MSE is a little bit of effort and planning can save a lot of money-hotels, utilities-whatever-makes no difference.Kenny-Powers wrote: »I am simply introducing myself as the almighty oracle of travel knowledge that I am.

MayI'm contemplating finally trying the buffet of buffets next month as for once I'll actually have some proper down time in Vegas (after the marathon event in Idaho). One of my friends swears the Flamingo buffet has improved -anyone tried it recently (within the last nine months). I'm thinking breakfast Paris, lunch Rio (planning on been at the Palms in the afternoon so that works), dinner PH and breakfast Flamingo (and then not eating again for 24 hours LOL).
Staying at Ceasars so the Flamingo would be nice for a hop across the road-and Paris is always worth the walk for breakfast and I'd go early to try and beat the queues anyway ! (Suppose it should be Flamingo first and Paris last to do the early breakfast there) $44 with TR atm .I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
