Thanks duchy. I'll do a few more searches. We were thinking it wasn't so far away, so would be reasonably inexpensive. We don't have much experience with US internal flights.

And the new frontier:(, like you say the old vegas is disappearing and if City Center is the way forward, IMO I think they have got it wrong

I'm off in May outward connection is just over an hour which may be pushing it but I'll do hand baggage only (I hate waiting for bags so have learned to pack like a pro !) and am sitting at the front of economy-and if worst happens there's another flight an hour later. I'll power walk to immigration LOL Coming back it's an hour and a half -Newark is my nemesis airport for delays so fingers crossed !

they offered us a 55 minute connection in Houston, but way to quick imo, so got a nice three hour break to have dinner and a few drinks plus her first touch of american soil. Do you know what both airports are like for facilities. as we have about 12hrs in total for all 4 airports debating going into the airport lounges.

For anyone thinking of the Trop here is a comment from someone who stayed last week about the state of the pool construction

Just make sure the pool is ready, they were still building it when I was there this week. They told me it was to be ready for June. They also told me two months ago that the construction would not bother the guests.....The result: construction noise starting at 5:45 AM. Every morning. Lots of noise from the airport on that side of the tower too.

I think it can be -the shuttle from Salt Lake City takes four hours so a cheapie with SWA and then a hire car for the three hour-ish drive might be the cheapest option-or even consider doing Zion on the way and make it more of a road trip ?

Let me know if you want any more info on this .

The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

I agree far too quick-I hadn't realized mine was quite as quick as it is (the perils of booking at midnight) til too late. Not transited at Houston before but a quick google search showed lots of food choices as you'd expect from a hub like Houston so I'm sure you'll be fine. Newark has lots too -I even got my eyebrows done one time between connections at Newark :rotfl:

I don't use the lounges unless I have free access or it's a really long delay. If you have several hours to kill at Newark it's better to hop onto the shuttle bus to one of the hotels or the Outlet Mall IMO. (Like I said Newark is my nemesis airport -had two twelve hour delays there.......mind you the only airline I've ever had my luggage go astray with was CO-twice ..........once wasn't surprising as even I didn't know what flight I'd be on but wasn't helped when they sent my bag to Paris instead of London the next day-so it arrived 3 days after me-in the middle of a blizzard-2nd time mine was the ONLY bag to get left in Newark on a flight to Cleveland-but arrived at my hotel 3 hours later)

EDIT Just as I hit send postie came -with my new CO frequent flyer card -and four free drinks coupons :)

Looking forward...we have booked a cruise for our silver wedding in July....unfortunately one of the Spanish airport strikes falls on the day we are due to fly out to pick up the ship.....worst case scenario if we are not able to go we will ask for a full refund if indeed that is on the table.... anyway if we get a refund we will be looking to go to Vegas instead...

Has anyone done Xmas and New Year in Vegas....the plan is if we go we would arrive near Xmas and stay off strip...then do a few days at Flamingo....move off strip for New Year and then Ballys for the remainder of the stay

Do you know if the off strip hotels also hike up their prices....can you recommend a good place to stay
