AugustBeen reading Tripadvisor and saw that The Sahara is to close on May 16th. On a few trip reports people were very critical of the state of the place, though for curiosity's sake I wanted to have a look as we have never been in. Will visit next week when we're there.

Thats sad, I stayed there about 10 years ago and the buffet was great value back then so always used to go back for the buffet in subsequent years, but it did start going downhill long before the buffet closed. I think they closed a tower last year as well.0 -

Vegas Chatter has a post about it too - http://www.vegaschatter.com/story/2011/3/11/112554/882/vegas-travel/End_Of_An_Era_The_Sahara_Is_Closing
I think we're going to go down there when we're over in April. I've not stayed there, but it was the hotel my husband stayed at his first time in Vegas 20 years ago.0 -

Maywhen is it booked for duchy? im doing exactly the same route but have gone for 3-4 hour stop overs each time as its the gf first long haul flight.
I'm off in May outward connection is just over an hour which may be pushing it but I'll do hand baggage only (I hate waiting for bags so have learned to pack like a pro !) and am sitting at the front of economy-and if worst happens there's another flight an hour later. I'll power walk to immigration LOL Coming back it's an hour and a half -Newark is my nemesis airport for delays so fingers crossed !
For what I'm doing this trip is a bargain £450 for flights (plus $10 in taxes only Vegas to Idaho) Caesars is comped for both my first night in Vegas and the three nights when I get back from Idaho. I'll probably keep the Forum room for the first night as I'm on a morning flight out from LAS to IDA but do the $20 trick for the three nights later in the trip.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Approx $80 off per person. Valid until August, subject to availability. Book by 31st April.
Not bad if you were going to book anyway......

This looks like a decent deal too. Anybody used these guys? (Canyon Air not Travelzoo)

We are considering a side trip to Idaho. What prices did you find from Las to Idaho? We've been invited to stay with a friend for a few days. He just invited us today, so any advice would be great. TIA.0 -
AprilDoes anyone have any feedback on any Canyon helicopter tours?
I want to get a heli from McCarran to south rim and land inside the canyon, but any feedback from any McCarran based company would be grreat.
Thanks0 -

thats really sad too..
when i was out in vegas working I pretty much lived there, had a real traditional vegas feeel to the place, you could feel like the old entertainers of old were working there
plus i agree had many average but very cheap meals in the buffet
and monday night football..
plus when we reviseted last year i found the craps table there was the friendliest in town
its a shame with vegas, ever moving foreward and tearing down its history...0 -
i was also upset when the stardust closed too..0

I found fares to be really high -I know my friend who live in Idaho Falls often drives to (or uses the shuttle) to SaltLake City and flies from there instead. There seem to be more flights to Boise than IF though and prices are better so I guess it depends where your friend lives-it's a huge state.
In the end I used miles and am flying LAS DEN IDA rtn with United.
I think regionals like Frontier and Alligiant often have better fares than the legacy carriers but don't always show up on kayak and the like (but I think do on skyscanner)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
