Don't feel too inadequate not being able to start the flatpack Kit - you are not alone there - I have never put one together, though that's mainly because Mr 3Dogs does them so well :D, but I don't think I would know where to start

Glad you had a great time with your daughter, Marru :j :j

I've been round to my friend/neighbour's house for our daily cuppa and chat, that's why I was off-line

Neighbours are a bit unsettled today after what appears to have been an attempted burglary yesterday. Just after 6 pm, when we got back from shopping and I went round to my my friend's with her shopping and to have a chat, she was on edge as her little dog had gone cazy just minutes before as if someone was out the front. My friend went outside to see if anyone was there, and saw 3 men, not youngsters, outside another neighbours, D, who lives 2 doors from her and is in her early 80's, midway between us. They all looked up when they heard her come out the door, and the dog barking too, and all 3 turned and walked slowly down the path and away down the street, but they behaved very suspiciously. I went to check on D, and if transpired that she had been sitting in he front room watching the TV for a couple of hours, when she though she heard her front door opening. As she looked up, a man wearing a cap, looked slowly round the doorway into the room, and he asked what he was doing in her house. He said that the guy next door had said that her door was open and he could go straight in, as if!, so she told him he could just get out again, quickly. She followed him to the door, where 2 other guys were standing, looking around, and as soon as he was out of her house, she slammed the door and locked it. These were the guys that my friend had seen. D was very unsettled and rang 999 who came within the hour. They have also been round to see my friend this afternoon and took full details from her. Another neighbour, a lovely man in his 80's, at the end of the main street by us (our 6 bungalows are across the end of the cul-de-sac) was burgled last week while he was in his bungalow, and a lot of money was taken. So the police have reminded everyone to lock their doors, front and back, even when they are in the house, and to let them know if they see anything suspicious

That's awful 3Dogs. I don't know why the police/local community police don't tell EVERY householder this!

I have tried telling my friend but she won't listen to me, and it doesn't help that my DS likes to open doors and walk out of them!

I was at home 2 years ago, DS was at childminders. Someone rang doorbell and I looked through the window and saw these 2 black guys. Thought what the hell do they want? probably can I wash your car for £5, etc. So decided to ignore them thinking they would go away. TV was on and you could see it through the window.

So they rang the bell again, and knocked on the letterbox. Still ignored them.

    BIG MISTAKE!

next thing I hear someone coming through my front door! These 2 guys have jimmied my front door with a screwdriver as I have one of those stupid PVC doors. One was just starting to run up the stairs with the screwdriver in his hand as I came out of the sitting room. They saw me and ran out.

Since then, we have always kept our door locked, even when we are at home, the police recommended it.

My Landlord, the first time he came to see us, we had double locked the door and I couldn't find the key. He said to me when I let him in, oh you don't need to double lock the door, these doors are safe.......

After I told him about the break in, I said these doors are safe? I was told by the police to double lock them!

a lady a few streets away from me, has the same door, they broke in at 4am, same way, took all the coats, a laptop and cash, were looking for car keys to steal a car, so didn't go upstairs at all.

Your poor neighbours! How awful for them! I hope they are ok and not too shook up.

Oh susan and aesop, gosh how awful. That is really frightening. The brazen so and so's I can't believe they can just wander around in groups looking at houses to steal from. They just wondered into that poor ladies house, in her 80s she could have had a heart attack with the shock. I can't believe it.

Everything is safe here but that is just my perception. My neighbours are all really friendly and look out for each other. If someone did that on our street all the men would go out and sort it themselves. I can't believe they have the cheek to do this. They should be put in stocks and we should throw tomatoes at them. Pigs.

It certainly has them worried - being council bungalows for the elderley and disabled, the tenants are naturaly vunerable and it is only when something like this happens that they realise just how vunerable they are. OK, we are 57 & 61 and got the bungalow due to my arthritis, but we are the most able of our neighbours, which consist of a man about 60 with mental health & mobility problems, a lovely man in his late 50's with mobility problems who 'likes a drink' but is harmless, then the 3 ladies in a row on their own, 2 in their 80's and my friend in her mid 60's. The bungalows at the end of the main part of the street, are occupied by a man in his 80's, and a lady in her 90's. All very frail and vunerable - we sometimes feel like the warden to them all, which I am in no way complaining about. But it is a very friendly, quiet area and everyone looks out for each other really

In a way, I don't mind our dogs barking as it makes the neighbours feel safe, they say, to know that they make a noise if anyone is about - but this is certainly a lesson to be more careful and keep the doors locked even when you are in ;)

As a wee aside when I had my handrail put up outside my house I noticed a big jump in the number of people coming to the door looking for 'work'.Draw your own conclusions~ I know I did.

yobs preying on the elderly and vulnerable. makes me sick.

if they want to rob somebody suggest they try my house.
Not only would they find little of any value but also I'd like to video their faces when they realise that smokey dog will let them in... but wont let them out afterwards :-)
