SmilerNE wrote:Hi fellow MoneySavers,
just incase nobody else knows, you can book MOTs online at Kwik-Fit and you get a 20% discount. Instead of paying £44.15 as most charge, you only pay £34.95.
If you book direct with the test centres you will pay the regular price of £44.15, so remember to take advantage of this offer BOOK ONLINE.
Don't know how long the offer is on for so spread the word MoneySavers.
I think u actually get 20% (approx) OFF the price u see online. I booked by phone but said I had seen it online and was quoted £29.95. When I went to have it done the £34.95 price was on display on posters and seemed to be "normal" charge and that is what I was asked to pay. However when I told him I had pre-booked he said "oh yeah the online price" and charged the £29.95. I know it's not exactly 20% but the difference between £44.15 and £34.95 isn't exactly 20% either(Remember the possibility of a FULL re-test fee tho)
Hope that helps u save some more0 -

has anyone used them before?
Just come back from getting my MOT done at this place. Can't praise them enough. All very friendly and pointed out all the potential probs with car as he went along and even gave me a recommendation for a good tyre place.
Quite refreshing. Well worth the £40.
Oh, BTW its all computerised nowadays, so they recommend you take your log book, so that they can accurately identify the make/model of your car.0 -
The West Dunbartonshire Council's MOT Test Centre can be found at Richmond Street, Clydebank.
The test centre serves not only Council vehicles but also members of the public.They carry out tests on Class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles.
Anyone wishing to have their vehicle tested should contact Gary Stewart on 01389 738741 or Bob Mackie on 01389 738742.
Retests are free, within certain criteria.0 -

Firstly I am new to posting so forgive me if I mess up. I have been living by MSE since January when I got the book for my birthday and I want to thank you all for your input into saving me money - love the boards.
Ok, here is my little story.
Feb 1 Car MOT at dealer £44.15 paid - failed gonna cost £798.00 !!!!!!!!!! to fix it!
Feb 2 Car MOT at local council test centre £30.00 paid (which i found about through MSE)
``````Car Passed MOT!!!!!!``````
Feb 2 Rang Trading Standards and Ministry of Transport and reported dealer.
Feb 14 Car retest MOT by Ministry of Transport AT dealer, infront of 1st tester. Car passed MOT!
Feb 21 Letter to dealer requesting initial test fee reinbursement suggesting their non compliance with Road Traffic Act Standards.
Not long after...cheque for £44.15 received.
All in all I paid £30.00 to the council testing station and that was it! I consider this to be one of my greatest achievments to date and have MSE and it's members to thank for inspiring me! Cheers!!!!0 -
..might be a bit contentious but I honestly think that anyone that takes their car to Kwikfit for an MOT needs their head examining...still each to their own...anyway......
As we now know the MOT system is now computerised which means that the traditional days of getting a free retest have gone as big brother now watches the station do the test or retest and the garage has to spend the allocated time to do the test (45 mins).This means that if you are a home mechanic and your cars fails on anything other than the simplist problem you now pay 2 MOT fees
Have any garages that want MOT business come up with any new ideas on how to attract business...How about offering a free pre MOT (i.e looking at obvious stuff like exhaust/tyres etc that will take about 10 mins on the basis that you then pay up front for the subsequent official MOT they will do if it looks ok...any thoughts????The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0 -
any government run MOT centres in Northamptonshire?0
I just called them too: took a long time to get through to anyone who actually knew. They contract-hire most vehicles, and so have these tested at Reg Vardy. What about ambulances/buses though? - I forgot to ask!
Still looking - if I find something, I'll post it here.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0
