MY ROVER 216SI (P REG), FAILED IT'S MOT ON SATURDAY ON EMISSIONS.

THEY HAD A LOOK TODAY AND QUOTED £421.95. :mad:

APPRANTLY AFTER INSPECTION THERE IS POSSIBLY AN AIR LEAK IN THE FRONT PIPE (MANIFOLD) WHICH IS PRIOR TO THE LAMBDA SWITCH THEREFORE CAUSING TH READING TO BE OUTSIDE THE EXPECTED LEVELS.

UNFORTUNATLY I REALLY DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAN REALLY BE DONE OTHER THAN A FULL REPLACEMENT, HENCE THE £421.95. IS THIS WORTH IT OR IS IT WORTH PAYING ANOTHER GARAGE TO DO ANOTHER MOT AND THEN GET A QUOTE AS MOST HAVE REQUESTED I MOT IT FIRST. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED AS MONEY DOESN'T GROW ON TREES IN THIS NECK OF THE WOODS!!!!

Stockton-on-Tees Council's MOT station is at the Cowpen Lane Depot, Cowpen Lane, Billingham TS23 4DD Tel 01642 527167. They test on a pre-booked basis and are 'authorised to test category 4, cars up to 8 seats'.

Looking for gov MOt centre in portsmouth. Can get to any from petersfield area to southsea area. If there's no gov MOT centre can someone recommend a good MOT place, that is a reasonable price and will not fail me as i'm a womena dn they think they can get me to pay for something that really doesn't need fixing.

As I said above, Kwik-Fit is up to £34.95 when I looked online but was still the cheapest I could find in my area. However when I called them to book it in they quoted only the £29.95 Be aware tho that they DO actually carry out most MOT related repairs so will not be entirely unbiased as perhaps indicated earlier in this thread. Also note that they charge a FULL re-test fee if u choose to have repairs done elsewhere.

EDIT: When I called to ask about re-test fee I was told it was FULL fee to re-test. However I just had another look at their online MOT bumph and it seems u can claim a free re-test "by the end of the next working day" for certain specified failures.

There's a long list of things where it is compulsory for them to do a free re-test. See my earlier post to see which things.

yes tnx koru - same as list on the kwik fit website. My point was also that it might not always be practical for people to get any of those items fixed quickly AND back to kwik-fit "by end of next working day" tho! Seems a bit of a tight timescale.
