Have just come back from the Wandsworth Council MOT centre. They turned me away with 2 pages of major failures and a sheet of advisories an did the same with another customer - many things that were in situ last year but ignored or stuff they used to let by on discretion ("replace your tyres on the way home") etc.

Not saying they're not playing by the rules - in fact following them by the letter, but perhaps not one to go to for a discretionary MOT any more. :money:
  • Could not find a local council site. But did find some where I would highly recommend. I had my car mot done there today. Pleasant people, free cup of coffee, free wifi and a reasonable place to wait. One person had their car fail was given free advice on what the cost of repairs and parts should be. The retest is free if returned within 10 days. Best news was my car passed.Their details are:
    MEDWAY MOT CENTRE
    Unit 5 Cloverlay Industrial Park
    Canterbury Lane
    Rainham Kent
    ME8 8GL
    01634 371171

  • You may only have to only get an mot every 2 years rather than every year if some reports are to be believed... would save us motorists a lot of money too

in my opinion that would be a bad idea, some people struggle to maintain there car as it is, alot of things happen within 1 year between mots let alone 2.

an mot is about having a car that meets minimum requirements to be on the road.

Thanks to the advice I received hear I got my car MOT'd for £40 at Fife Council.

They have three centres in Fife (one in each locality) and can be contacted on 01592 414141 and asking for Fleet Services/MOTs.

They open at 7.15 so can do the MOT before going to work. The one I was at this morning was:

    Fleet Services
    Denburn Yard
    Denburn Road
    Kirkcaldy
    Fife
    KY1 2HD

They put a new bulb in my number plate light and sorted the alignment of my lights without any extra charge or apparent effort. Chatting to the guys who did my test (45mins long) they 'look to pass' the car. The car passed with no concerns. Stunning.

Cheers for this most excellent tip.

Fife are great for servicing :T I remember when I use to live local I got mine done there
  • There is no such thing a cheap mot
Most garages are the same they lure you in with a "promotion" then find anything to rob your money from you.

hi thanks to your advice on tv, our mot was £37.00 this year on our camper from a council run mot garage, last year it was nearly £400.00!!!
    Thanks alot Martin
  • Took my car to Warrington test centre on Thursday (Network Warrington) and passed with no advisories/repairs needed. My car is 9 years old and has 'failed' it's MOT at the main dealer I usually use for the past 3 years. I will definitely be using Network Warrington again. Helpful and dare I say it; more honest than my main dealer?!?!
