I took my 4x4 to the local garage I purchased it from for it's MOT yesterday, only to find out it had failed with a £1200 bill:eek:, worryingly they managed to check the tread on my spare tyre that was still in my garage at home!!! (that tyre passed btw)...anyway, found my council run MOT centre today, which passed it and only found 4 tyres :T plus they could find nothing wrong with my front suspension arms/joint/ball thingy and springs.
Massive thank you to this site,
KP
I payed £40, booked a time and was served at that time...refreshing!4 children = no matching socks0 -
Passed @ Frogmore Complex, Dormay Street, Wandsworth, SW18 1EY. £50, nothing wrong. Excellent tip, thanks.Regards,

What I'd like to know is why some of these companies ... in particular the "big tyre fitting" company isn't being taken to court and done for fraud by the Tradings standards dept?
That is what they purport to be there for.
The government allows this to happen day in day out and every other customer too gets hit by this ... it is a MASSIVE fraud and really is fraud unlike some old codger that neglects to tell the benefit agency that he's won £50 on a horse and is taken to court over for fraud over that.
These companies on the other hand rip off an average of £100 per customer ... and when they've got hundreds of branches and 1000s of customers every day ...
Yet why is nothing done... I'd really like to know.0 -
Anyone had any experience with Kirklees Council MOT Testing, Vine Street Depot, Huddersfield? My car is up at the start of December and i'd like to get it in a month early.
thanks0 -
I can recommend the Wandsworth Council one - I've used them twice and both times they've been very friendly and accommodating. You need to ring beforehand to book an appointment.
!
They are open Mon-Fri 8am-4pm. You can either wait for the car to be MOTed or pick it up later. The site is staffed 24 hours by security so if you can only pick up outside those hours then they will leave the keys with security -- 24 hour pickup - great!
!
They charge £50 and if your car fails they will retest it for free within 7 days.
!
The entrance is on Dormay Street though the area is fairly confusing. When you get to the green gate you need to get out of your car and ring the buzzer to get them to open the gate. The site has lots of buildings for Wandsworth Council so once you go through the gates just drive around looking for the MOT logo or ask someone.

Try 0114 203 7421. Looks like that is the number for transport services at Sheffield Council on Olive Grove Road/Staniforth Road!English by birth. GEORDIE by the grace of God.0 -
I took mine to the council centre in Coventry today. It failed on two minor points and they can't retest it now till Wednesday which is not convenient, especially as my current certificate expires on Sunday! I booked the appointment a couple of weeks ago and today was the earliest they could fit me in. I don't blame them for failing it, but am annoyed they were such small things. I've decided to take it to a garage that i think I trust to do the minor repairs but to also retest it on Monday as it'll be less hassle to pay for another test than to rely on buses/taxis for three days next week.
Hopefully this garage that are familiar with me don't fail it on something else just to punish me for not taking it to them for the test in the first place!0
