I'm new to the NSD challenge this year. I've already found my shopping behaviour is changing tho!

In my determination to plan for a day of NSD, I find myself trying to squash all my purchases onto the same day, to ensure that i won't have to spend anything the next day IYSWIM.

Not sure if this is very money-saving!

Has anyone else done this and still finds it more economical?
  • I'm in severe need of some virtual hugs this morning and feel welcome here so hoping you guys might oblige. Found out yesterday that my shop is closing on the 17th of this month  I have worked there for nearly 7 years and for the entire time that I've lived in Northern Ireland so I am in massive shock. It doesn't feel real at all but I know that it's going to hit me hard at some point today.

It just feels like we were finally getting our feet back under us and the rug gets pulled out. On New Year's Eve my OH and I felt so positive about this year and how close we were to being debt free. I do know that we will be ok and that I will find something but I'm just so upset about it all.

Sorry about the mopiness but I just needed to have a moan.......

    Hi everyone,

Today is NSD #2 for me, I was extremely tempted to call in the shops on the way home from visiting Mum & S.Dad for "a few bits" but I resisted the urge :)

    honey x

Well done that woman... Very proud of you Honey
Unfortunately I'm still on 2 for this week as yesterday bought 2 cups of coffee for £2.60 on a day out to say thankyou for driving to friend and then today had to pay £5 for last lottery payment now it ends at work syndicate and £14.60 for 2 prescriptions. Now I'm back from work I should have bought milk today as mine is OOD on Thurs (should be able to eek it out for another day) and I wanted to get another 2 in this week,

Mind you I will be holed up all weekend writing my assignment due in on Monday so won't be going out food shopping - can get another 2 in

Next week is going to be expensive with 3 uni days rail travel and 1 mtg out and about incurring parking expenses which I can claim back both but not any food or drinks for uni days

I'm planning to take in my own food snacks and drinks for lunches on these 3 days but think I'll cave in for a cup of coffee

Going on the train and walking up there plus food and drinks usually to comes to more than £10 per day

New plan is train and walk as usual, limit self to 2 drinks max, take in water bottle and fill up from cooler as usual and this time take in all food and snacks for lunchtimes and carton of pop and fruit

Now I've remembered I need some more basics fruit cartons for work I think I'll pop up to Mr S for some and pick u some milk as its already been a spend day and then see if I can squeeze in a few more this week

Now what do I need? Juice cartons, reduced crisps on offer, bit of fruit, milk, check eggs for baking and bake some buns for snacks and check have something for sarnies for 3 days

I love the posts where people 'think out loud' It's good to see that I'm can consider myself normal in some things at least.
"The idea is you "spend" all that money in one hit by....let's say **putting the week's bus fares into the pretty coffee jar, Jo's tumble tots SIZE=2]Weds mornings[/SIZE in the cracked teapot & Ben's £1 coin for the gym locker SIZE=2]Friday lunch[/SIZE in the pocket of the changing bag, on Tuesdays every week when you've got some change from doing the food shop, so an already spendy day. At least four 'spending days' condensed into one ;) (**mine's jam jars for windows, milkman & a bit towards the bills!)"

I've quoted mumma above to ask this

For train travel next week and coffee money for uni next week - if I put all the money for this in one pot for spends Mon-Wed and don't spend anymore money on anything can I count any of these as a NSD?

    Does this make sense?

    I think it does indeed

Went to salsa yesterday so spent just over a tenner. Only got a few quid in my purse till the end of the week. So taking a packed lunch to work as normal. got petrol to last me till the end of next week I should think. I saw the price of a litre today. £125.9 :eek::eek: How quickly it has shot up from £1. I always said that if it hit the £1 mark it would go up really quickly from there. Not happy to have been right :mad:

Expecting today to be a nsd.

    Have a good one all
  • aw {{{{twistedhazel}}}}} so sorry to hear your bad news. I really hope that once the shock goes something amazing happens for you x

was just coming on to declare today will be a NSD after the horror of having to spend £197.50  on getting our aerial fixed yesterday. But that seems a bit shallow now :o
    DF as at 30/12/16
    Wombling 2025: £87.12
    NSD March: YTD: 35
Grocery spend challenge March £253.38/£285 £20/£70 Eating out
    GC annual £449.80/£4500
    Eating out budget: £55/£420
    Extra cash earned 2025: £195
  • That's ok DNMS it's not even a bit shallow, I'm just feeling super sorry for myself is all. I'm allowing myself this week to feel however I want then as of Sunday it's pull your socks up and get on with life.

    I can oblige if you're serious:D Got a lovely bum kicking smiley:D

Well I may take you up on that - I was supposed to get pots for mash yesterday but the shop didnt have the ones I wanted so I put the money (less than a quid) aside to get them today and so long as I dont spend anything else I shall be declaring it as a NSD. If, however, I spend more than that then I will be needing administered with a swift boot up the bum :o

I have bills etc that all left my account yesterday and am a member of PAD as well, but I'm not going to count payments to debts and bills.

My purse was firmly closed yesterday. I have a lodger moving in today so imagine the next few days may involve some spending, my DD doesnt have a wardrobe at the moment and I need to get her one in ikea, undoubtedly I'll end up getting a few other bits we need in there as well.
    Debt £31,184.05 - DFD - Jan 2015!!!
    Next target - Barclaycard £1000.00/965.29
    PAD from 20.12.10 ~ £1318.29
    NSD Challenge ~ Jan 10/10, Feb 10/10, March 10/13
    £365 in £365 Challenge ~ £120.06
