"The idea is you "spend" all that money in one hit by....let's say **putting the week's bus fares into the pretty coffee jar, Jo's tumble tots SIZE=2]Weds mornings[/SIZE in the cracked teapot & Ben's £1 coin for the gym locker SIZE=2]Friday lunch[/SIZE in the pocket of the changing bag, on Tuesdays every week when you've got some change from doing the food shop, so an already spendy day. At least four 'spending days' condensed into one ;) (**mine's jam jars for windows, milkman & a bit towards the bills!)"

I've quoted mumma above to ask this

For train travel next week and coffee money for uni next week - if I put all the money for this in one pot for spends Mon-Wed and don't spend anymore money on anything can I count any of these as a NSD?

    Does this make sense?

I think you need to interperet the rules in order to get the most out of what you are trying to achieve for the challenge. Train travel can't be avoided so I wouldn't count that as a spend - however, would you be able to get by on an alternative to the coffee spend? Perhaps take a thermos flask? That said, I seem to rememeber hot drinks at my uni weren't particually expensive and sometimes it was just nice to sit with a hot choc between lectures, so if you're not paying for Starb*cks Tall Skinny Mocha Chocca lattes at £10 a shot and you have set the £ aside with your train fare (and only spend that each day) then I'd say that's ok to count as a NSD :)

Well I was back at work today and am happy to declare NSD #2 :j

I actually took back a couple of items I got for Christmas which weren't quite right (my mum's great at giving gifts along with the receipts ;)) so I actuallt have a positive balance today. Felt a bit guilty as if I was being ungrateful but if things aren't quite right then it would be more of a waste of £ for me to keep them and not use them. I'll have to do something nice with the £ instead.

Did have to get milk but OH paid for that (seems to have been lots of us running out today :)) I still need to order OH b'day present but will do that tomorrow as totally pooped from work and can't muster the enthusiasm tonight.

    Thanks kerri

can't avoid train travel to uni costs £4.65 - now increased to £5 return (thanks national rail companies when you can't squeeze another tissue on the carriage there and back) and then uni coffee costs £1.80 x 2 = £3.60

If I factor in £9 per day = £27 x 3 days - good grief! How much, even though I knew it cost around this much per day its a shock when I see it written down. Oh yes, I forgot I can claim back the train costs from work leaving a cost of

£3.60 x 3 = £10.80 for coffee over 3 days. Now that feels like quite a lot now I've worked it out,

I might scale it back to a max of £10 and put this in my purse for uni spends

Then only 2 more days at the end of the month the same

  • Another NSD today! :j Now up to 2!!

I am really pleased with myself for avoiding the sales, esp Next! I always get a VIP slot in their online sale, and for the first time ever I deleted the e-mail and didn't even look at the sale. The funny thing was that a couple of days later I got a VIP slot letter from them- DH reckons they must have thought my e-mail wasn't working when I didn't book a slot!!:p

Here's to lots more NSDs this month!!
