 should I confess the 'something I really love' appears to be the silk jammies in new White Co catalogue... ?

Confess away Rosa ... it might take the spotlight off the following:
My spends = 2 x tops in the half price sales £19.99
DDs spends = more socks for school £5.99
fab new sequin top £6.99
pyjamas £11.99
ankle boots £16.99
I can feel a new pair of converse coming her way too, she's outgrowing hers ... at least I can wear them though.
I've gone way beyond my intended experimental budget. I definitely underestimated what I spend on DD, but she just keeps growing so not a lot I can do about that.

£36 to confess for damson-coloured jersey pj's from M&S. Happy with them and needed as favourite winter nightdress and pj's finally worn out
This makes total so far (since I forgot to do a 3/4 one) £878 .
£216 of that was my beloved chocolate over knee boots; £75 was a very cute summer coat that I haven't worn much due to not wearing short dresses so much this summer but will wear next year (plus it was a 'passed exam' reward anyway); and £105 I reckon are mistake buys (one dress that turns out to need a cami underneath and taking up, and one that is gorgeous but formal and I have no need for it). Also one skirt hasn't been worn yet- it's a long satin one which I bought to put with a favourite corset as a summer wedding/ dinner outfit - but it was only £10 in the Coast sale. The rest is all loved and worn.
Will go through my winter wardrobe soon and figure out what else I need. My brown knee boots from last year will need replacing, but I think they're the only major external item as I have fallen in love with my winter coats all over again. (NB. am very disappointed with the quality of those boots - they were from an expensive shop as I left it very late in the season and have skinny legs and fussy tastes. I won't buy from there again as although the leather is soft to wear, the boots are wrinkled and look worn already. Will stick to usual upper high street in future.) Am considering buying purple boots on payday and looking for sensible brown ones later in the season.
I think I have bought less this year than I expected - not sure how much of this is due to challenge and to having no time to shop. Am a bit embarrassed at realising how many clothes I have when switching seasons, as I can't possibly wear them all enough in a year! So I think my aim for next year might be to explore that strange and grown-up concept of a 'capsule wardrobe' AKA figure out what I actually need and put together enough to do that without finding I have the same thing in eight colours!

Just logged on to eBay and realised I had won(!?) a Coast dress. Thought I had been outbid and was secretly a bit relieved. But no, I won it. So just paid £23.53, including postage, which I include in my budget as it is the cost of me having the dress. It looks gorgeous so I hope it ends up being a bargain. Will let you know.Clothes challenge 2011 £254.08/£500!!!Toiletries challenge 2011 Trying!:j:T:j0

Long time no post,
Rosa, I'm inspired by your confession of wasted money but sorry to hear those lovely boots have not worn well - that's rubbish considering the price.
I know I have wasted money on purchases, but cannot for the life of me remember what on or how much it was - I will try to do this during next year's challenge.
Blonde Ambition - that is an amazing price reduction well done :j I really hope your ebay bargain is equally wonderful.
I've had a bit of an ebay result myself, won a fab Joe Browns dress in lovely crinkle fabric ( no ironing ) which is a perfect fit, I've worn it twice already, it goes well with boots & cardi's I already have so very pleased with it for £10.00.
I also had to buy a new pair of woolly tights so that was another £4.
DD is off to see the new Twilight film next weekend & I found a lovely hoodie for her to wear for £12.99.

Lula - so long as it inspires you NOT to follow my example that's good! I was quite taken aback to realise what I bought and hasn't yet actually exited the wardrobe. It's not disastrous, as I have spent very little on other personal things this year due to lack of time, but it is a waste. I will also confess that I was probably shopping and wanting new clothes because I was feeling so frazzled and fun-deprived, and felt like I didn't have time to enjoy myself in other ways. Hopefully I can now both recognise and fix that.
I think I may try your ebay method - I shall certainly have a look round the charity shops on the next Saturday I have free, because I've had so many compliments on the Boden dress I am currently wearing... which cost a whole £4
I kept a spreadsheet of everything clothes-related to see how much I was spending, and then it occurred to me to add in whether I wore it or not. And that does mean absolutely everything, down to knickers and hair slides and socks and dry-cleaning, as I know otherwise I would be tempted to spend money on some things instead of others. (And because lingerie is a weakness of mine anyway, so excluding it would not help matters. Am quite impressed to realise that I haven't bought any, at all, in a whole year.)
I am considering being even more OCD as I sort out my winter wardrobe and actually listing everything I have. Mainly because I am shocked at the amount of stuff I have but feel guilty about ditching things, so it would help me figure out what I need and wear and what I really won't use again. Hmmm. Can see next year's personal challenge rules getting complex

OK I am clearly bored and have clearly spent too long working with management systems...
I just found myself working out a scoring system to see what's the best value out of the things I bought this year :rotfl:
Take the spreadsheet away from me, please.

I bought a new coat yesterday from Mr T for the grand sum of £20!
It is deep purple with a button over collar and quite a bit dressier than the usual ones I go for. Thought I must get it for that price. It will be a new winter coat and best of all....it's the first size 12 coat I have fitted into in a long long time. And those were the reasons I went for it!
