Hello & welcome to the 3rd Crazy Clothes Challenge

A huge thank you & well done to everyone who has participated in the previous 2 challenges :A

This year is going to be fun, we are going to buy fabby things at even fabbier prices :D We are going to hunt for bargains like our lives depend on it. Some of us are going to rummage through charity shops for hidden treasure & some are going to trawl through ebay. The clever & cunning are going to up their budget by selling their own unwanted stuff on ebay.

In previous years, I've decreed that the budget shall be £100 & been all bossy about what should be included in that budget. If you're happy with that method & find it works for you, then you have my respect & admiration :A so please continue.

I failed miserably at that :o. So this year, I'm trying a different method; first of all I'm going to include my DD in my total. Two reasons for this really; the first being that she is going to high school in September & will need a whole new uniform _pale_. The second being that I have absolutely no idea whatsoever how much I spent on her in 2010 :undecided. Secondly, I'm including absolutely everything in my budget this year; coats, shoes, undies, pj's, bags, accessories, the whole shabang

If all goes to plan I will be debt free in May  and learning to budget for bills, car expenses etc has been instrumental in helping me to achieve this. Learning to budget for all our clothing, footwear & accessory requirements is going to be essential in staying debt free.

If you are aiming to become debt free, paying off your mortgage, saving for something or just want to get a grip on your personal spending habits then please join in. Let me know what your budget for the year is & I'll add you to the list. You can declare your spends on here, show them in your sig so you dont forget & at the end of they year we'll have a big total up & I'll put your total spends next to your budget on the first post. You have a whole crazy crew of lovely people to support & encourage you throughout the year :D.

    Hey Lula,

I failed miserably last year too, think my total bill was well over the £120 I pledged.

Having just bought a lovely new dress jacket with a hood (£50 in sale but bought with vouchers I had, so technically free) and some lovely Coast sale items, I am going to pledge £240 (£20 per month) for the next year and going to include EVERYTHING clothes related, as I have far too many shoes, handbags as it is.

So £240 for me please Lula - let the bargain hunting begin!

ETA: I have a couple of items to be altered but not counting these as already bought ages ago!!

    Hi Lula,

After doing the first challenge in 2009 it went quite ok, last year did a bit on my own - not too bad overall but need to be stricter with myself for next year

Have worked out a rough list for next year

    Need for 2011
winter boots for work - seen a pair on amazon for £45 - just deciding about these
**winter boots for me** exempt (saving and exempt from this challenge as am saving for them in the SPC)
    underwear
couple pairs pjs - might pass on this one and make do until next winter with 1 new pair
tights will look in the sale for a couple of reduced thick pairs
small amount of summer clothing dress/skirt/few tops
small amount of workwear - eg work trousers/jumper or 2
small amount of winter wear - eg trousers/skirt/jumper or 2

    Just calculated rough costs - boots (£45), tights (£10), underwear (£35), pjs (£5) = approx £95

    Leaves £155 for everything else

    Total £250 for 2011

£20 per month equivalent plus one month at £30

Have gone for a higher total to keep me more realistically on track. I'll still be looking in outlet shops and sale items and buying out of season which is the thing that really helps me save money

Let's see how I get on!
final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333

  • brilliant, thanks for running this again! I'm going to go for £100 for the year as last year I got loads of new things as I was a bit naughty so I shouldn't need anything new (although there will be lots of things that I want of course)
  • Hi Lula,

    Can I join this challenge?

I buy far too many clothes throughout the year that I don't need. I'm going for £100 for everything. Thanks
Offically Debt Free as of 27th May 2009.

    Saving for first house.

  • Hi, can I join in too please?

I'd like to set my target at £250 for the year. Realistically, I don't need to spend anywhere near that amount as I wear a uniform to work and have enough clothes (in varying sizes, depending on my waistline) to last a lifetime, but if I set the target too low, I know I'll fail miserably.

    Thanks :)
    Total debt at LBM £26k+
    Total debt now £16,494.40
    Tesco CC 11/2/11 Total - £1,387.20 - Now £0

Shall be rejoining this and hoping to do better. I'm going to go for £100 on normal clothes all in, and £50 for gym and swim gear....so £150 in total.
    ** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **
    ** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
    **SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

    I'm here :p

Am going to make it simple and include everything (not so easy to cheat then :o) and aim for £360

Sometimes I am lucky enough to earn incentive vouchers through work so I will spend these freely and not include them in my total :D

Lula - are you sure I can do this????? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

  • I am going for 600 pounds.

Its not very money saving I know. In fact in the end it might even be more then that. Sorry. not much of a challenge you might think! Its partly because I will be debt free at some point next year and for other reasons.......

I have never really liked myself enough to buy nice clothes, pretty much everything is black or jeans. I am not looking for sympathy, (support with weight loss yes!) I have self esteem issues a plenty and have decided that I need to get my !!!! together. I getting to the point where I feel my age is catching up with me and I will never be able to wear the clothes I would like to wear.

When I look at the links you guys show each other (across many of the diaries) I would never have the confidence to wear any of it. I am strictly black skirt, black top black tights............boring! or jeans and black top so predictable! I don't think I look awful, I just have no identity as such. I wore leggings for the first time this summer cos of something I saw on here so if you don't mind I'd like to stick around for fashion tips and advice!
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Fab post Buffy - we will support you all the way in what you want to achieve :D

Don't rule out black though, as long as it suits your colouring? 90% of my wardrobe is black - and I love it! And there is no outfit that can't be made better with spectacular shoes :j:j:j
