Afternoon OSers! *waving*
Well just opened my fridge freezer to find it had been slightly ajar - just enough for the blurry thing to be caked in ice! Spent mad 10 mins chipping worst off before I decide whether to defrost it now and risk my frozen food or run it down in the run up to chrimbo and then defrost. Least door shuts now
Popping out to buy some veg as I soaked pulses for my soup making today, opened veg basket and the whole lot had gone off!!!!!! More grrrrring from me.
After that cake baking as my boss really does deserve something for all the support he's giving me at the minute, life would be impossible without him right now
Have a lovely day everyone and for those insomniacs on here - oh you have my sympathy. One of my greatest joys now is the fact I can sleep again, spent about 3 years surviving on 3-4 hours a night and I know how rotten it makes you feel.

Everyone seems to be checking their pantrys and freezers and planning menus, I have tried honestly but the blank page remains blank, something to do with my state of mind atm. Anyway I admire you all:T :T
Last night dh and I went to a parking place overlooking our town and the next couple of villages, to take photos of the fireworks. At one point there were 10 displays going on and the sound of distant booming must have been like being behind the front in ww1. Tonight we will have soup, baked potatoes, sausages and sparklers.
Hope you all have a lovely afternoon and a safe Bonfire Night.
doddsyWe must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

Afternoon all
Well the WM is dead and the washing machine man is coming on Wednesday to condem it! So not able to do any washing today... shame really as it is a lovely day to hang washing out... sunny and blowy! Ho hum!
There is no ironing to do as no washing has been done... hard life! And don't even try to persuade me to handwash!!! Can pop round to the folks to use theirs or a mates but really can't be bothered. Will probably use the WM at work on Tuesday.
Am going to work later on for a few hours to help at a bonfire party etc. so just spending time on my sofa watching daft telly!
Have been feeling a bit poorly over the last few days and not been eating. Doing a shopping list and menu plans isn't really flicking my switch so I think I am just gonna stay in my jim jams until going to work. There seems to be a bit of a running theme on this thread with people not sleeping properly... and I'm another one... something in the water?
:heartpuls CG :heartpulsEver wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
Afternoon all
My calendar went well and truly out of the window today as Ive now been hit with the full force of this awful cold thing. Ive only just got up. Im surveying the wreckage of the house too and I really want to clean up, but all the muscles in my neck protest too much at any work so im going to have a slow walk round and straighten up.
I also dropped a cup of tea on the bed when I was getting back in it so I am going to have to do a couple of washes and change the sheets. I also must iron the uniform for work tomorrow. Aside from that, I intend to spend the rest of the day drinking blackcurrant tea in front of the TV.
Have a good one all!

Well I survived the morning, did not get up until well after 11am, did not sleep but have managed a nap this afternoon for about an hour. Hoping not to fall off again so I sleep tonight!!!!

Pork chops, stuffing, cabbabge, carrots and roasties for supper, think pud for OH will be ice-cream, am not pushing my luck, although tummy seems to be ok, had cheese and biscuits for lunch no probs. kethry wrote:yesterday did some rice bags, put lavender in as well, although i'm now worried i put too much in. The house reeks of lavender as a result.. LOL.. but the rice bags do look nice. Making lots of different sizes, from small palm size ones that could be sneaked into the palm of a glove, through to bigger ones. they do work though, rather well.
Just saw in one of those stupidly priced sunday supplements a pair of slouchy socks with heat/wheat/rice packs to go in the bottom, can be chilled in the freezer or microwaved. I know how well my wheat and lavender bags went down last year and think I may make DD's some socky foot warmer ones for Christmas - In some of those nice fluffy socks they should go down a treat.
Had a very productive weekend....went out to price up a new pc desk, to replace our "propped up with a bit of wood and a prayer" one and a coffee table which we desperately need. Had a budget in mind and searched high and low, just couldn't find the right thing. Wandered into a DIY store for a paint chart and there looking at us, was a range of furniture that we both loved and it was of offer with 1/3 off!!!! Got a coffee table, 2 lamp tables, a console table (to use as a desk) and a "merchants chest of draws" all for just under the budget we'd set! Very, very pleased, does mean we need a new TFT monitor for the pc instead of the heavy old one but MIL always gives us a hefty cheque for xmas so that's sorted.
Then went off to price up curtains - the landlord, in all his wisdom, has had this lovely extension built with lovely huge windows....he's paying for the curtains, we just have to get him a few quotes...the ones we love are £380 (3 big pairs and a patio door to dress) so will try and persuade him in that direction. With those curtains in mind, we've chosen the paint colour for the room too.
It's nice spending other peoples money and getting the benefit of it.
On and OS note, beef stew and dumplings doing it's stuff in the SC - got organised and put it on before we went to the beach for a picnic - well - we sat in the car - DD's had a lovely time running around like loons.:D
Hope you all enjoy the fireworks tonight - wasn't too many round this way last night but will call the cats in shortly just in case.

Afternoon everyone :hello:
I'm just having a quick break having planned my numeracy lessons for the week and updated all the assessment spreadsheets that needed doing. Just got another 5000 things to do for school. However, I am doing it all in front of the rugby, not that I've seen much of it............
Change to our life plans AGAIN! Because of me being down in the dumps re job etc (DH reckons that on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being really depressed and 10 being mega happy, I'm a minus 5!) and DH wanting to move job, with me going travelling after Easter etc etc, we're going to have to pull out of buying houses for the time being. With everything being so uncertain for me (even if I wasn't to go travelling after Easter), then it would be unfair to go through it all. Although we could afford to JUST pay for a mortgage on DH's salary we would not have much money for paying bills/eating and definitely no money for leaving the house. We wouldn't want to default on a mortgage. As a result, my happiness is now minus 4! A definite improvement!
DH is being wonderful over all this. He's honestly a superstar. I mean, managing to put up with me for all this time being down in the dumps. I honestly am trying to pull myself out of it, it's just slightly tricky to see beyond the end of my nose at the mo.:o
I'll stop whinging for a moment............
Next weekend, DH and I are going to The Dorchester for afternoon tea! This was one of our wedding presents, so we're eventually getting the chance to enjoy it...... We've decided to book a hotel, to make a weekend of it, so we booked through Priceline.com last night. We've got a 4* hotel for £50 plus taxes, so that's about £60. Not too bad, but the reviews of the hotel that we've got are erm, mixed. I suppose that's the lottery and risk that you take when booking through priceline........ We'll see. We're thinking of going to the Comedy Pub (near Leicester Square) too on the Saturday night (apparently, we won't feel like eating again that day after tea), where we've been a couple of times before. It's quite a good laugh. Anyone want to join us?
We're going to see fireworks later in a village nearby. This will be followed by chilli con carne (homemade, obviously ) which is currently defrosting.
Take care all
Vicky

Afternoon all
Well, today is the day that my baby must officially be a proper little girl ... cos she's been riding her bicycle!!!!
Today has mainly been spent outside, been up and down, and up and down (repeat as necessary!) with DD on her bike
We have also cleaned both the cars today inside and out. Looking so so much better. Even got the back to black on the trims, and what was grey is now black (I kinda thought they were meant to be grey, DH informed me "nope, they've just faded"). The cars have taken us best part of 5hrs!! How bad were they
.
3 loads of washing have been washed and hung outside, and now hanging inside finishing off. 2 beds stripped, so need to re-make those shortly.
4th load on.
Bottles to the bottle bank, and recycle boxes washed/scrubbed and aired.
B - Cereal
S - Malt Loaf
L - Cheese sarnies (HM bread)
D - No idea yet.
Question for you wheat/rice bag makers ... where did you get your lavender from, or were you organised and dried your own? If so, is it the flowers you are meant to dry or the leaves? If the leaves .. is it too late to dry some?GC - March 2024 -0
