Marks and Spencer - Another waste of time

I ordered, at some length on Christmas eve, 5 shirts in the M&S sale, following an email direct onto my iphone.
I then wait for the delivery date, 6th Jan, to be emailed on the 5th that they will not be available at that time, and pls rearrange another delivery date. Website doesn't work. I try to get through 3 times to customer service, gave up each time after a 10 min wait, rang the local store, and suggest I wait to find out what is happening.
And then on the 9th, an email saying "Thanks for your recent order.
I am sorry to let you know that the items you ordered are no longer available. We have therefore cancelled your order and no payment has been taken. I appreciate you will be disappointed by this; you might want to have a look online to see if there’s anything similar to order.
well, not now, as everything will be gone, as in any other shop by the 9th Jan... doh!
At least let me know earlier they don't have it, and don;t pretend up til the last moment that there is an order to deliver...
I have shopped at M&S for over 20 years, and never been treated like this before. Now its online, they think they can treat as if you don;t matter...
anyone else?0 -
Another rant about M&S. On Saturday I took back a Christmas present I had been bought which was just "not me" - it never is from this person, they buy for themselves.... Anyway, no gift receipt so I got a lot less than it had been bought for in my estimation. Went to another section (tights) and decided to get another pair of thermal tights and some socks. Got to the till, offer credit voucher to be told that it wasn't working. To be fair the assistant was very good and said that it was all the credit vouchers that had been issued that day and it was "driving her mad" having to tell everyone this. She said it was still good for future use but I'd have to pay cash on this transaction. That wasn't a problem but (a) has anyone else had this experience and (b) they obviously know what they're doing as most people will think "I'll spend it now" and then have to buy what they want......so they get more sales.....bit cheeky IMO.... :mad:But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green

This happened to me last year. My mistake was going for a delayed nominated delivery date. I generally find that if I go for a normal delivery date, rather than nominating my own, I don;t lose out. I was so angry when it happened to me. As you say, it's the time it takes up as well.TBeckett100 wrote: »Well I have emailed the chief exec with my complaint.
I am fuming. I wasted an hour ordering items on Xmas Eve (and even stopped myself buying them in the shops own sale) and my order is still not dispatched.
I called up to enquire and I have been the items are out of stock. Some of the items were in stock yesterday so I find it amazing that they have sold what would have been allocated to me to complete other orders.
I find M&S onlien an absolute disgrace. With all the modern technology in stock control, the larges high street retailer does nothing by co ck up orders year after year. This has happened on previous years and I would hjave thought they would have learned from it.0 -
I stopped buying from their sale a couple of years ago when they had the same problems. Their IT system is clearly completely unsuitable for the job and a complete embarassment to what should be one of Britain's flagship firms.
Same here. I made an order a few years ago and had exactly the same problems. Spent an hour ordering items which were shown as in stock. A day or two later I got an email stating that items were out of stock or 6 weeks + estimated delivery. I said I am never going to order from them again but a about a year later I gave them another go and exactly the same thing happened again. I have not ordered since. The problem is their website does not show real time stock levels which is incredible for such a large retailer. And if you contact them they just do not see that they have a problem. Every year the same M & S sale thread re-appears. Search for the previous years M & S thread on exactly the same problem as described above.
Never trust the M & S stock levels shown on their website. If you order during normal times the stuff you order will probably be in stock anyway so the problem is hidden but if you order during the sales you're likely to find the stuff which is shown as in stock in fact is not.
M & S online is surprisingly poor considering their bricks and mortar reputation. They are no Amazon or even a Play. That they have not fixed this problem after years is amazing to me.0
