Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thurs 30th Dec. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning all
Hubby is still asleep, but I've been awake since 5 so I thought I come down & make a cuppa.
WM is on & will go on at least once more today, I'm not worried about waking the neighbours with WM as I can hear theirs as it is against our adjoining wall, whereas mine is against the opposite wall & I am an end of terrace.
I think I'll take my tree down today, I didn't manage to get it looking nice this year, so will be happy to see it down.
Hubby went shopping yesterday & got himself a new bank account, a new electric razor & a bluetooth earpiece for his works phone, by then he's had enough so had lunch & came home. We both hate shopping, I didn't even go in with him despite having some vouchers to spend.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
p.s. Just caught up with yesterday's thread, lol, now why is my name being banded about in conjunction with the word willy, I really don't know how I managed to get such a reputation, humph.

Morning peeps
very damp and foggy here today, hope that its better than yesterday as it never seemed to really get light all day - i can live with the temp of 3 degrees though as i`ve been able to turn the heating down a notch
Another chocoholic hereall i`ve seemed to do is binge on the stuff for the past week or so and i`ve even shocked myself at how much i`ve gone through  I`ve meal planned into the new year but may have to make a few changes as i`m planning on hard core low carbing for a couple of weeks and then general low carbing for a good while afterwards as i need to lose the extra pounds that have gone on over the holidays (there are quite a lot of those) and then some.
Last day at w*rk today for three days and tbh i`m looking forward to the rest as i`ve worked every day except for Christmas day and Boxing day so i`m whacked now, also need to spend a day sat down with the household finances and bring everything up to date and plan ahead a bit - only then will i be happy. As things get behind it starts to bug me and i can only settle when i`m organised.
Spag bol for tea tonight and i`ve taken a pork joint out of the freezer this morning before i left the house, its quite large so it may not be thawed enough in time for tomorrow as my kitchen is really cold but if not i`ll swap the days around on my meal planner, just need to update my freezer list now.
Candygirl - ((((HUGS)))) all around for you, your DD & Boo. Hope that everything works out ok.
Hope that all the poorlies are at least on the mend if not back to full functionality. Hopefully i`ll be able to pop back later to catch up. It was very late by the time i got to read the thread yesterday and it seems strange if i`ve not been on in the morning.
Have great days peeps!

Morning all - OH asleep on the sofa (I can hear him snoring from here!) so I'm still snuggled up in bed - it does mean I don't have coffee though - one downside. Went to MILs yesterday and managed to get a fair bit done - drove home through the fog, but it wasn't as bad as I'd thought so very pleased with that.
Today (when OH gets up ) I'm going to be cleaning (I like a clean house for New Year) and I'll be taking down the tree too - two chaotic children means life needs to return to normal asap. Will see ifI can get them reading a book or two today as well. OS wise, have kept all the wrapping paper to use in the fire, have loads of cardboard though, so will recycle this. Dinner will be a pie I think from the freezer with some veg and gravy (DS1s favourite atm). Need to get a bit more realistic with household things so will be having a good look about then probably selling a lot on ebay.
Now the snow has all but gone I'll also get out into the garden for a walk around - takes about 30 seconds!! - to see if there has been any damage done, but also to plan for the next gardening season. Want to grow more veggies. Still have a few bits left from Christmas in the fridge, but not a lot. Have invited friends over in the New Year to help finish it all.
Hope that those who are feeling poorly are loads better today - lots of hugs going out to all those in need. xxxxxxxMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
Morning all - wet and mild here too, if you can call 3 degrees mild?
Need to spend today catching up on paperwork, especially my work expenses claim, seem to have left my receipts in random places recently so need to herd them together and work things out.
Got plenty of food in even though we are going up north tomorrow to see the Bells in :j and back home probably Sunday. Need to take the rubbish to the tip as the bins are overflowing - the back lane still had snow and ice on it until this week and the bin waggons struggled to get down it. As I need to take the empties too it won't be a wasted journy.
Cards have been taken down too. I'm always amazed at the number we receive each year despite having stopped sending cards about 7 or 8 years ago (could be more) although they are diminishing nicely. I'll take them to a recycling box.
Hard to believe it's almost 2011, I got a mental shock the other day when someone on TV spoke about 1990 being 20 years ago! Hadn't thought about it in those terms before.
I got a Ross Noble DVD from Santa so think we'll watch it tonight.
Hope everyone's warm and well, or getting better.0 -
Good Morning All
Very foggy here too this morning.
Have a nice day planned. No hours on my 2nd job, will ignore my office work and head out with the family. We are going to Lakeside .
Our mechanics are next to it and have very kindly lent us a car until OH gets his new one later in the month, means I won't be housebound when OH is working. The buses out here are terrible so not an option.
Kids also have some vouchers to spend and I need to go to Curries, they have had DS' netbook for over a month now when they promised it would be retuned in 10 days. Am fed up of trying to ring them - spent 20 mins on hold one time so am preparing myself to be very forceful and not leave until its sorted to my satisfaction
Off now, need another cuo of tea - have a good one.x
Hester - hmmn...can't think why that is :rotfl:0 -
Hi i have been lurking for a little while thought i would pluck up the courage and join in as i need a little prompting shall we say to keep on track. I'm gonna be doing a roast pork dinner tonight which hopefully will fed us all better than last nights chicken wraps, cos everyone was still hungry afterwards. I currently have DS1 and DS2 home from uni and they are rather enjoying getting fed! I need to have a good vac and mop downstairs as well today and i think i shall collect all the Christmas cards together ready to make into gift tags for next year. The tree will come down on New Years day.
Have a good day all!0 -
Morning :hello:
I didn't know Ikea had sales. I know they had a big one a couple of years ago, but thought it was a one-off. We bought our kitchen a couple of weeks ago to save on the VAT, just found out that if we left it til after Christmas, we could've saved a bit more AND had a £100 voucher  That would've been handy for the curtains and wall racks, s hooks, etc. that I'm going to buy.
I was a bit peed off yesterday so I went out and bought a fabulous pair of biker bootsI also treated myself to a bright pink dressing gown.
Food-wise, lots of OS going on. I'm ignoring the moans of "Why is there no pizza?" and telling them all to eat their way though the freezers. There's a lot of mix 'n' matching going onThey're actually using their brains and coming up with ways to use up the leftovers. I'm not going near another shop til next tuesday, and I'll only be buying fresh stuff. I had to run down then completely lose my big store cupboard when we moved the kitchen to have it plastered. Once the kitchen's in (it's in my brother's garage at the moment) I can gradually stock up again.
I've told them all, strict budget from now on. Mr tru's job ends on 31st march. So no spending unless it's absolutely necessary. There's some meat in the freezer, so all protein will come from that and our eggs. I always make sure there's lots of fruit and veg in the house. Meals are going to be potato based, so I need to get inventive. We have five months worth of household expenses put by so we're hardly going to starve, but something always comes up, doesn't it? I've thought through any problems that might arise, I think I've got all covered
I need to plan the veg patch for the year. The fruit bushes are established so I can leave them to their own devices.
The keep the kids' pay us includes their toiletries, they can either pay us a bit less and buy their own or they'll have to downgrade to Morrisons own. They've said the own brands work just as well, it's just that they like Lynx, Sure, etc. I'm just waiting for them to decide.Bulletproof0 -
Morning:D
was up for 2 hours between 2 and 4 due to DHs snoring and teeth grinding and taking over the bed:o
My sleeping pattern is all to pot due to the hols and just being stuck in the house going stir crazy.
I am sick of the tree and decs and just want them down so I can clean and get life back to normal. I hate the week between xmas and new year.....just seems a waste of time and I have never seen the point of new year parties....prob cos I dont drink:rotfl:
Looking forward to getting to work on Tues!
DS doesnt do well with hols, am going to try to get him to watch some of his new dvds with me today or read some of his books.
DS was pleased with his sylvanian families things he got for xmas.....however he now has a catalogue and wants to collect the full set;):o....bloomin expensive things.
Making HM chicken pie with veg later. Am craving fresh veg and salad after all the party type food:cool:
Have been laid low with this cold thing, have no energy, cough and feel sick. Just fed up with myself at the mo.....wanting to start OSing again and get my lists done etc...sad I know.
To cheer myself up my one and only spend on online sales were these shoes:smileyhea

I'm the same as you NPM, not sleeping well and bored of being off work! It's 'free' leave so I'm not complaining, but I thought I'd be able to chill out and relax, but this isn't happening!
It's looking like it's going to be a nice day here at the moment. Today is the frst day in over 5 weeks that the dock has unfrozen so all the birds are having a bath in it!
Today I plan on going to gym (trying to get in habit of going now, rather than next week when it fills up with all the new members!). I also need to go to Tesco to get a new printer. I've seen the one I want so hopefully it is in stock. It will be a run in and out jobby as I don't want to spend money on anything else! I need eggs but think I'll try Home Bargains instead as I need loo roll too. I also need to try to get to the library to return a book, but it's not really on my way anywhere!
Tonight I am going out for food with the girlsit's our re-scheduled Xmas dinner! I can't wait to see my friend who lives in Bristol, it's been months since we met up last. And I'll get presents too
. We are going to a lovely chinese restaurant, I already know what I'm having!
Have a fab day all
