It did go up a while back in all supermarkets, for a number of months, but then recently came back down to 10p. If it is heading up again it might be worth stocking up - I prefer Sainsbury's but Tesco's stuff does the job just as well, though I do live in a soft-water area.

ok, well you find the big supermarkets act like sheep wit price increases, one increaes, and others follow. I currently have 16 bottles of sainsburys basic shower gel brand, at an amazing £1.60. Never tried it, so if I dont like it, i am sure handwash would be just as good :)

I can confirm we have used the Sainsburys Basics shower gel (really stocked up when it was 10p last time) as hand wash (just decant it into a hand wash dispenser) for over 12 months and it's absolutely fine. I have a feeling it's very very similar to (the same as??) Sainsburys Basics Hand Wash which is quite a lot more expensive.

I am pretty sure its the same stuff, I use the basics sainsburys shower gel as hand wash but when they ran out of shower gel I bought the basics hand wash - smelled the same, consistency the same. A little more expensive at 30p for 500ml but hey, it was way cheaper than any other handwash anyway. I quite like the appple fragrance - IMO the tesco shower gel smelt like toilet cleaner, really nasty.
Let's get ready to bumble! :rotfl:

toilet cleaner?????? naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasty, maybe thats the best place for it :)

I am interested to know if anyone can get the basic shower gel? I ask, because I went to two sainsbury stores recently, and none had them on the shelves.

Sainsbury must be still selling the basic brand, because the price was still displayed.

either people are stocking up, or the shelves are not being replished dast enough, can anyone shed any light?????

  • They still have a quite a lot in my store, still at 10p - I bought 3 bottles and it seems fine, really nice apple smell, I do agree its a little gloopy, but it does the job, my son and hubby use it and say its fine, doesnt dry skin or anything - daughter and I use Dove or Johnsons (I have skin prone to dryness, dammit!) but always buy it on the half price offers that are always on.

Treacle Moon Lemonade handwash is grogeous, agree its very pricey, so 75p fantastic bargain!

I love the Harding and Bayliss (or whatever its called! :) ) grapefruit and manderin handwash but its £2 a bottle, so bought when on half price offer months ago - but at New Year there was a 3 pack in Tesco sale for £3, result!

I went into my local sainsburys today, could not resist in visitng the shower gel. I spotted the 10p gel back in stock. There was 17 bottles, i loaded the lot in my basket, I approached on of the staff at the self service check out, to see if I could get these all scanned through in one go.

The staff member told me the max I can have is twelve. I told him I will pay for 12, and come back into the store for the reminder 5. The staff member told me to give it half an hour.

Went back in a hour to get the reminder five, and the five bottles taken off me, were not returned to the shelf, which meant none were there :(

was just about to walk away, when I notice night staff replemishing the stock. A nice lady took tons of stuff off her stock cage, and so I ended up buying another 12 :) I think I am going to stop there, as I have not even touched any of the many bottles I bought a few months ago.

One things for certain, i am def clean :)

I am sure it was about 3p about a year or two ago for a few months as my parents used to get it and they told me about it but I had seen it in a store for about that price anyway.

Anyway its usable but for me it seems to make my skin red and itchy and burning feeling
