How do I go about finding out what the right postage will be? ould you suggest packaging a parcel up ready to go and take it to the PO before listing it? I have just been guestimating and loose out everytime. I posted 4 packages to a guy tonight for £11.30 when he'd paid £7.99 postage. I did say that I would throw in an item for free with no P&P costs so it's my own fault, but am still curious as to how not to get stung with excess postage costs as I have undercharged before and lost out. Thanks.

Basically, yes! I weigh the item and packaging then use the Royal Mail website to see which category it comes under (letter, large letter or packet) and then price accordingly. I must have put in the wrong weight on my larger item because I listed 2nd class Recorded and its too heavy for 2nd class!

I have had this before when I've logged out of my business account and tried to log into my Personal account (or vice versa), I normally have to close all the pages I have open and open a new one and it's normally OK.

I am going to try selling as well. So many things sitting around unused! Nothing that valuable, mostly DVDs, books, etc., but since I will never use them again, I am getting tired of storing it all.. As long as I get some profit and unclutter my room, I will be very happy (and my boyfriend will be as well, I am a student and last time I moved he helped... and then complained for a long time about how a student should really have a few boxes worth of stuff, not all that :o:eek:)
Anyway, my goal is to make 100£ profit, without fees and shipping :jI am aiming low at the moment, but will be very happy if it works and see whether I can make more then :)

I weigh the item on some kitchen scales (plus the packaging) then look up the cost. If its a heavier item, I would take it to the Post Office to weigh it before listing it.

Heavier items should be easier as the range covered by standard parcels goes in 2kg differences. I find the easiest way is to print off the PDF postal price guide from the Royal Mail website so you don't have to keep going back for every single item

here is the link (although for some reason its not working at the minute) http://www.royalmail.com/link/download?catId=4200004&mediaId=119200768

or click here and choose full list of prices in the form of guides and wall charts
    http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump2?catId=400023&mediaId=11200122

I go through all the items I want to list, weight them, add some extra for packing and write down the estimated packed weight. Its handy to keep your list nearby when you get international postage cost questions from buyers

  • Evening all,

Sold my broken laptop and a half used bottle of perfume today and made £50 (after fees) so I am a very happy girl. Still have loads more to list but I seem to have lost my mojo this evening - will crack on in the morning.

  • Can anyone give me some advice on couriers. I have a ladies mountain bike in the garage which I got for myself but never used - its still in the box :o. I want to be able to send it but normally only use Royal Mail and have never sent anything this big before. Anyone know any cheap, reliable couriers?
