My mum is coming tomorrow to stay with us for nearly a week so today I will be busy cleaning and generally tidy up. My OH is putting up the wardrobe in our guest bedroom and I will sort out everything that is lying on our guest bed so that my mum will have somewhere to sleep.

A couple of boxes with books have still not been emptied after we moved in 2 months ago. Those boxes will go into the garage today and stay there until we have a bought a new bookshelf.

Cat04, sorry to hear that you had a cry about your finances. Very sweet of your OH to take the initiative to sell the the blue rays. Good luck with the car boot sale today and I hope things get better soon.

Hello all, I'm an e-tutor Cat, spotted the bit about online marking! Hope your car boot was successful. The X Catalogue shop have a sale on at the moment, fantastic and very wearable bargains but I have a new mantra for clothes - 'one in, three out'. So a huge bundle of clothes to the British Heart Foundation yesterday. I did leave the shop with an absolutely gorgeous Marks and Spencer's grey 'Portfolio' top.

Currently BHF are running a promotion whereby if you take in a working small electrical item you can enter a draw for 'TVs, laptops, cameras and coffee makers'. This year I have bought 3 of the items listed... I do however have a 'used once' sandwich maker from Amazon Vine to donate, it can only handle tiny amounts of filling. I'm sure I can find other things to donate.

I'd put up a link but I know MSE are a bit sniffy about charity links even (see my sig, it used to have a link to Give and Make Up.) For details of the BHF draw, look for 'Drop it in and win' under 'Donating goods' on the BHF website.

We had another tidy out of DS1's bedroom last night, got rid of a bag of rubbish, boxes and packaging in the recycling and pending out a huge wicker chest, he used it for his toys but I find things just get dumped in there, was thinking of putting it on ebay but its a bit worse for wear so unsure yet, really wish he would have a new bed, he's got a hi-sleeper and its a pain and he could do with a new carpet, but that won't happen with that huge bed in there!!!!!!!
DS1 wants to do a car boot to clear some of his toys so that'll be next week, so I have one bag of stuff so far.

Just been through youngest son's room and EVERYTHING sorted through. Huge bin liner full of broken / incomplete toys, games and other assorted pieces of rubbish and packaging. Smallish pile of other bits n pieces for Ebay, otherwise they will go to charity shop / recycling. Little one is loving the tidy room and toys he hasn't seen for ages. :j Also one bag of old clothes for charity shop to go out tomorrow too.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who likes using lists of jobs :) Needless to say we gave the carboot a miss as we needed to pop into town and we had some light rain a couple of times. We drove past the school we were going to go to and there must have only been 5 cars as they were also running a football tournament on the field where the carboot usually is so we didn't miss out as I don't think we'd have sold a great deal. Can't remember if I said or not but I finished my marking on Thursday night so I now have more time to dedicate to sorting out the house :)

The thing is it's not really bad as in very very cluttered and dirty, it's just that even though we have loads of storage we still don't seem to have enough, or not the right kind maybe. This next week whilst DD2 is at pre-school I'm going to get the following done:

Paint the radiator and door in the spare room
Totally clear anything that shouldn't be in the living room and give it a good clean
Ditto kitchen worktop (it's only the one that separates the kitchen and dining room that's the problem - it's one of those surfaces that attracts anything and everything!)
Sort through my wardrobe and see what I can donate/sell/chuck as I haven't done that since sometime last year
Sort out my Vie at Home stuff and find a home for it

I'm going to leave it at that for now as I'll only feel disheartened if I don't get everything done. One of my problems is I come on here to see how everyone is getting on then end up reading other threads and wasting my tidying time on here!

  • Managed to get rid of a bag of scrapbooking stuff to my other halfs mum and sister yesterday. It was decent stuff, but my mum bought it for me and I have no interest in scrapbooking!

Today I didn't get much done, but managed to wash the kitchen and lounge floor. Exciting!
