The Great Declutter Part 3 - 2011

Well, I have decluttered the ironing from the basket to the board and now it's all hanging over chairs to cool down before I put it away. Does anyone else do this? I find it far better to put the clothes away cold as they don't seem to crease so much then.
It means that I just iron 1 basket at a time and then put it all away.
Someone was going to spend 2 hours ironing, can't remember who sorry! How many of you are there? There are 4 of us. What I do is I have a big laundry basket. (This is a new system btw, still a work in progress!). All the dirties go in there. Every few days, I sort it into lights, darks and hot (towels or bedding). Whichever there is the most of gets chucked in. When it's done, it gets hung out. Then the next load goes in. I hung some out yesterday afternoon and brought it in this morning. I then hung out the next load. Unfortunately, I then shoved in the next load without thinking it through so it's sitting in the machine wet as I can't get the other stuff in yet as it's still damp. It's probably going to have to go out late this evening and come in in the morning. It's a bit overcast today but I DO NOT want to use the TD if I can get away with it. So I now have no washing left to do (well the beds do need doing but I'm not stripping them until I can get them washed and line dried in one go.
I will have a few items of ironing to do when this load comes off the line but I may not do them until I have a basket full. It depends because I've got the board out so that I can do some sewing later so I might have a fit of the guilts and get on and do it too.
Generally, I let it build up until I have a basket full and then do it in one go. This takes about 45 minutes tops and then sits until it's cold and can be put away. I iron about 2-3 times per week. Less if I can get away with it. Popped in for a small moan... I dutifully left bag of CS stuff + 3 boxes full of bric-a-brac outside for collection this morning & they just took the bag ??? Phoned the Charity up - who said that they should have taken the boxes too & that they would ring the collection people to contact me. Of course no-one has  so I will be taking it bit by bit to local CS. Kind of annoying for me but most of all a real shame for the Charity - there's probably about £50 worth of stuff in those boxes...
Thanks for the suggestion re: paint poorbutrich - I'll have a look to see if there are any local Charities who want the paint. Some of it is ancient though & wouldn't be usable but I've found a company that has a contract with the Local Authorities in London to collect Hazardous materials for free- it's a bit bureaucratic and can take up to 2 weeks but it'll be worth the wait - better than having to ask for favours.

Kaz - I use a small basket for my ironing so when its full I think I've got loads & I havn't! Its just my psychological ploy to myself & it works every time.:rotfl: I do use my TD but just for 1/2 an hour as the last 15 mins is cold anyway. I only use it for towels & jeans as it makes them softer and I always fold my ironing as smoothly as possible so I dont put more creases in while its waiting to be ironed - I did bag a bargain at Arg*s a couple of years ago - a steam generator iron for £40.00 - best bit of kit I've bought for years!:DSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Well there is lots of de-cluttering going on - well done everyone :T
And to those who are just starting out - definitely baby steps -all the way!
Anyway I have started my great de-clutter as I have a few days off.so today I tackled the cloakroom area and
1. 2 kids swim hats,2 pairs goggles,3 pairs swim bands,2 swim rings - all onto freegle
2. 4 coats ready to either car boot or ebay
3. approx 6 hats, 10 scarves, 4 pairs of gloves to CS
4. 2 rucksacks to freegle
5. Returned dress to a friend.
Went through 6 handbags and got rid of all carp inside and returned all make up to my dressing table,
Sorted through 2 kitchen cupboards and recycled loads of take-away menus (kept only 2),recycled lots of receipts, recycled batteries, threw away lots of plastic broken bits and bobs.
So not a bad start ...........but still can't find my DD2's passport:cool:

Been away for the weekend to see my parents, went on the train so didn't bring too much back but a few ins:
- 2 pairs of jeans for OH which he really needed from outlet
- 1 pair of trainers for me for walking at lunchtime from outlet & came with free top
- 1 book to read then CS
- 1 bottle of nail varnish, going to CS as she bought me the same before!
- 1 magazine for OH
- 2 mothers' day cards which will go soon.
- some old photos from when I was little (more are being scanned in & copies will follow)
- some theatre tokens my mum had been given but we go to the theatre a lot more so she gave them to us as she hadn't spent them, hoping to use them at the weekend so they won't sit around long!
- then last week at the bric a brac stall I helped on 2 glasses as we'd broken an identical one the day before.
Then out:- Broken glass as above
- Just sat and recycled about 10 bits of paper
- very old MP3 player, got a few pounds from weebuy for it & paid that in.
So not a lot really. Really need to get my act together this weekend, will go and start a charity bag in a bit to show willing!

I'm always amazed how people can spend so much time ironing. There's 5 of us here and two dogs - the washing machine goes on at least once a day - sometimes as many as 3 times in one day. I take clothes out of the washing machine as soon as the machine finishes...shake them and hang them up straightaway - either on coathangers in the bathroom or out on the line.
By doing this I find that often I dont need to iron a lot of the clothes. People seem horrified when I say this, but I can honestly say we dont look scruffy - with two teenage daughters they'd soon kick up a fuss if their clothes looked a mess.
Had a good day with ebay as all but one of my buyers paid for their items which ended on Sunday. So 9 parcels went out - with 11 items = a very welcome £30XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:wave:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 -
Well I tidied the hall and decluttered
1. A bag os old envelopes and various bits of papers we no longer need.
2. A broken toy
3. 3 envelopes including the census put in the post.0
