Some fantastic posts there, what a really enjoyable ten minute read.
I took a big bag of books and clothing down to the Red Cross shop, usually its the British Heart Foundation but this was handier.
I'm disabled (mostly arthritis) and I walk with a stick. The manager looked at me and said 'Oh, you won't be GiftAiding it, will you?"

What a negative assumption to make - that all disabled people must be wageless, and not tax payers. That HAD to be the assumption - surely!!

As it happens, I work from home full time, with some hours in the community and definitely do pay tax, so I then filled in a Gift Aid form.

I should have challenged her discriminatory statement, but I suppose the fact that I gave her ten minutes of boring admin work to set up Gift Aid was some compensation. :D

One book I wanted to give away went a different route than the CS.
I wanted to read Kath Kelly's book about living on £1 a day but it's out of print - I ordered it from the local library.

I asked the library whilst collecting the ordered book if they would be interested in Dave Spikey's newly-published autobiography, which I got through Amazon's Vine Voice scheme. It's a smashing book, mint condition, but I don't want to keep it, and as it cost me nothing, I wouldn't feel comfortable selling it (I know....) It's only just out - so the CS wasn't the best place to send it.

Because the book was an 'as sold in shops' edition and not a proof copy, as often happens with Vine Voice books, they gladly accepted it.
I'm really happy that I may have found a way of giving to my community that won't cost me anything. :):T:)
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.

I remember reading in a decluttering book once that " you should only ever handle a piece of paper once".....ie: deal with it as soon as you receive it and then file/shred/recycle. If only I could follow this excellent advice!

This sounds like graet advice.I'll try and take it onboard...

    I've managed a little decluttering:

    75. three books to the CS

    76. two empty body lotion bottles out

    77. one plastic bucket with lid to the cellar

    78. one empty biscuit tin to the cellar

I've never heard of this book, but was intrigued by the title. I've just put in a reservation request at my local library and look forward to it coming in!

It's pretty small TBH,a bit larger than a box room;but there's lots of shelves.I've got a lot of dried goods down there,as I suffer from a siege mentality...
It needs a declutter too,but I'd rather sort out the flat first.Sometimes I can't actually wade in until I've removed a few things.:o

I think that I prefer a cellar to a loft!

Can I ask why you've put an empty biscuit tin in the cellar marmite? Or am I thinking of a recyclable roses type tin when in reality it's a barrel type posh one (meaning I'm terribly uncouth!)?
I had a quick peep on thebay earlier to see what sort of price I can expect for DD's clothes. One dress ought to fetch £10. Better take a list into work tomorrow night so I can get them on the intranet. Then I'll try the local free ads on facebook. If all else fails, it'll be thebay, then CS.

Where do the charity shops find these rude, narrow minded assistants?!

Absolutely no de-cluttering for me today - unless you can count moving a box of books to the linen cupboard upstairs. We will be mounting the tv on the wall above the fireplace later which will free up a corner of the living room - until we put up dvd shelves in the alcove,
