  • Greyqueen you do cheer me up, thankyou ! When I first (ages ago now) decided to take stuff to a carefully chosen CS ( a charity I liked and far enough from home so I wouldn't see my stuff ever again) I called in and asked if they welcomed donations. I had done my hair properly and put on makeup ( I can look a bit scruffy without those things) and the woman looked me up and down and snootily asked 'What sort of things ?' down her nose at me. (It was nice unworn clothes, a v nice unused handbag, books etc etc - ie really nice, clean stuff I could probably have sold very easily on e bay) I was so cross I just left. HOWEVER I sent OH ( a good-looking 'older' bloke) with several bags of stuff and the ladies in the same shop positively FAWNED on him (I bet they fluttered their greying eyelashes and simpered) so now I always send him lest a snooty woman asks me what I think I'm doing leaving them stuff. It works well - he LOVES taking stuff out of the house and I don't have to run the gauntlet of those ridiculous women any more.
After I posted yesterday I filled two more binbags with out of date food - SOOOO wasteful, but, like you, resolve not to hoard food in case of nuclear disaster (would one want to eat a ton of rancid nuts anyway) and to store my spare food in the shops.
I feel good today and have resolved not to lurk but to play nicely with you cheerful declutterers if you'll let me join your gang.

    That is so rude! :mad::mad::mad:

    Today I have de-cluttered:

A bag of of ohs old clothes to my brother
Duvet cover and car mats to my sister
Pair of steel toe cap boots returned to ohs dad

    Re-cluttered:
Bracket to put TV on the wall

I've just read right through this thread - and I thought it was just me. :o Even my head was getting in a right mess with the tip my house is, is even getting me down. You people have just given me the motivation I need.

It's not just de-cluttering on my list, as I've got various things that need mending, cleaning, re-cycling, projects/hobbies to get up and running, stop eating junk, buying no more takeaways, stop spending money, even on the little things as it all adds up. Going to do it one or 2 things at at time though. Problem is I'm a hoarder, I mostly keep things that mean something to me, but going to try my best to get rid of things that I really don't need/ have any use for.

I'm in my 5th month of maternity leave, and my house was meant to be spotless before baby arrived. :( I managed to get all my kitchen cupboards, fridge freezer etc all cleaned and decluttered, but the nesting instinct seemed to fizzle out.

But, I'm determined to get it done before I go back to work in June - no more sitting on my backside and doing sfa nearly everyday.:o

Here's a list of major things needing attention:

    1. Clear dining room table of clutter.
    2. Finish ironing - DH and I got through most of it this morning, just a few sheets left to do. :)
    3. Sort through any clothes we're finished with for the charity shop, to make room for the ones we can't fit in the wardrobe/drawers - there's 3 piles that have lived on top of the drawers for 6+ months as we've no where to put them.
4 Declutter the living room of toys and move upstairs to DD's room - this is toys from xmas time and there is 3 toys not out their boxes yet.
5 Collect things for charity shop and for planned car boot sale in April.
    6. Clear clutter from understairs and landing.
    7. Clean inside of every window in house.
    8. Shredd a large bag of statements/bills  been putting this off for a long time and pile has got huge.

Right that's my lot for now, I'll add things as I do them. Thanks for reading - feel like I've cleared a great weight of my shoulders already by just writing this down. :)

Apart from nearly finishing the ironing, DH put alot of things up the attic that needed to be put aside for boot sale, bags of baby clothes. My god our attic is so full, once house is clean, then we'll need to tackle that too.

I have been good this week. Generally I only declutter on the weekends but yesterday, I did the following

Under bed storage box with my summer clothes
Under bed storage box with my DH's summer clothes
    DH's nightwear drawer

Thats another bag ready for charity

I have asked DH to check with the local council about how I can dispose knives but he "did not" get time for this so I will have to do it tomorrow

Today I sorted the computer desk, and put 3 old computer programs in the cs box, along with a box of 5 brand new floppy disks. 17 of the cassettes I put in the charity box have now gone to a new home via Freecycle, so they are now out of the house.

I had a pile of scraps of paper with little bits of information on them, this info has now been transferred to the computer, and scraps of paper have been put in for recycling, along with another old diary.

Also had a quick tidy of my kitchen base units and drawers earlier, haven't actually got rid of anything, but everything is stacked more neatly so doesn't look as cluttered. Of course it won't stay neat for long, as OH can't understand the concept of stacking small saucepans and storage boxes inside the larger ones so they take up less room, and just puts things away anyhow, still I can't complain too much, at least he does the washing up and puts it away, not up to my standard but he tries, lol!

It's my day off tomorrow, so hoping to get lots done.

    Out:
16 cds sent off to Music Magpie - found a big jiffy bag at work and also another ebay sale they'd paid for now.

Last ebay sale this week paid by cheque and arrived today, can't go to the bank & post office tomorrow so will have to wait (it's only a few pounds and they've got good feedback so not worth waiting for it to clear).

Done a final search through jewellery and have 16 things to send off to Hattons - all silver bits and bobs, a few rings, a broach, necklaces and a couple of odd broken chains - most is stuff I had years ago and haven't worn for ages, haven't worn the rings since I got engaged and that was nearly 6 years ago, kept 1 'special' one though. Will post it off on Thursday and so that's a bit of stuff gone and hopefully a bit of money added to the pile, did suggest OH may have something to add, as he has several pairs of random silver cufflinks he never wears but no - can't make him though and they're small at least!

5 more things in my box 'to ebay' too some I want to put on for more than 99p though so waiting for free listing!

Not in a decluttering mood tonight so going to do some baking instead.

  • Hey all

I managed to finally on with my big start on the deluttering over the weekend and got rid of about 16 bags to CS and the same amount of rubbish.. luckily our bin men come on a monday so was determined to get all the rubbish out then - mainly from the loft. Have my main front room still to do - this has my "to ebay" stuff, "to give away stuff" and piles of my sisters stuff.

Also determined to get new sliding doors in our bedroom with our old wardrobes going in kids room, once they have a new carpet. Means all my clothes will be habing up in my room instead of in the kids wardrobe and my house will be magically clean and organised!!

Another big declutter and sort out of the front room coming up over the weekend - then need to get on with the ebaying!!

:) As mentioned in passing yesterday, I have 9 plaster cherubs. They are on a tray on the living room floor and the reason that they are underfoot is to remind me to DO SOMETHING CRAFTY with them, which is the reason I took them from the jumble sale in the first place. They are little plaster of Paris wall plaque type thingies, two larger ones playing guitars, two posing with their draperies, two on the fiddle and three playing panpipes. At least, I think it's panpipes (one looks as if it might be committing an indecent act upon itself).

:) The cherubim had a wash and brush up in the kitchen sink as someone else had coated them all over with a reddish waterbased paint which came off on my hands and which would (probably) effect the subsquent paint effects I may put on them. Final plans are still being formulated but it will probably involve creating a joke bad taste mirror frame for friend with a serious cherub habit. So, after her birthday in October, I shall be cherub-free.

Off the premises today will be.

    1. Grey fun fur hat which is too tight and leaves welt on forehead.

    2. Purple quilted satin makeup bag, unwanted gift 2 years ago.

    3. Anything else I can think of plus the note-typing will continue.

Later, If I feel up to it, I may venture into the Twilight Zone (aka under my bed). If I do not post for more than 48 hours, please summon the emergency services as I may be stuck underneath or possibly have been eaten by the dust bunnies.

    :) Have a productive de-junking day, y'all.
