Right, I'm on a late tomorrow, then I'm off for 7 days. I REALLY need to get going on the de-cluttering. It's been annoying me for weeks. I have bought extra bin bags in readiness.......

  • So many new posts I haven't had time to read them all but looks like everyone has been really busy!

Quite a productive mini de-cluttering session today:

    2 cd stands to charity
Bag of clothes to charity (including a couple of voluntary contributions from oh!)
    3 books to charity
Set of 5 smallish pink storage boxes to charity
Large scruffy gym bag and several old items of clothing to recycling
Old paper and magazines to recycleing
All of ohs old posters being given to his brother (who will probably throw most of them away!)
Box of old paperwork to be used for lighting fire

Also a quilt cover pending out to my sister, a couple of items of ohs clothes pending out to my brother, 3 ebay parcels and associated packaging pending out and another 2 ending tonight.

I know what you mean, Bonsibabe, I think a lot of my problems in hanging on to stuff stem from the fact that for over 18 years now, I haven't had to move, haven't had to do a march-out, haven't had to get rid of kit.
One of my problems is books. They are so heavy and there were so many precious books that I parted with on our moves around, that I've hung on to too much. I'm getting better, though it's not helped by the fact that I'm a Vine Voice for Amazon and they offer me books to review. I'm just finishing a fantastic book by Patrick French on India...:)
Same problem here (except I'm married to the Raf). I need to march out to get things back in hand. Been here 8 years now and have another 12/18 months to go...

So today I thought I'd better continue. I threw out about 20 jars from my kitchen cupboards (well, they went into the recycling). I also got rid of some non fitting undies (recycling).
Ins: 4 new sets of undies from M&S
Out: 1 M&S gift card and £20 odd to make up the difference. £59 for 4 sets of undies . Boy were they needed though :rotfl:.

Ok so about half way through the weekend and I've done the following so far:

    This weekend:

    1. After failing to do this last weekend because I was ill I'm going to try and find some things to take to a charity shop tomorrow morning. My aim is 10, and if OH joins in and helps I hope to get to 20!
Took 20 things this morning, 3 items of clothing, a scarf and then the rest were little random bits and bobs, a photo frame that sort of thing but all good quality/condition and all gone out the house!

    2. I don't have an under the stairs cupboard but our office is the room that needs the most attention I think so that is going to be my blitz area this weekend, filing done, anything that doesn't belong in there gone and under my desk which has become a dumping ground sorted!
OH and I are doing this atm - filing done, stuff move out that doesn't belong here, recycling bin is full and it's starting to look better - work in progress.

    3. I've arranged to take some specialist books to a book shop tomorrow afternoon so hopefully they'll be interested in those. Do this and hopefully come back with some cash. I then need to actually list the books I didn't take to the oxfam bookshop the other week as I they looked worth listing on Amazon or GM but I haven't listed yet and they won't sell if I don't!
Traffic was awful and so didn't make it to the book shop as I would have been late for my volunteering otherwise  will have to try again - still need to do other books - job for in a minute I think.

    4. There are some bits on the book shelves in the little bedroom that should be in my 'special' box from things from my childhood - need to try and get those put away and then we'll have a couple of empty book shelves - good for things from the office.

    5. 4 of my 7 ebay things will sell so far - relist anything that doesn't and the duplicate item from last week I did on second chance offer but they didn't respond, and then do a couple more of the bits I don't mind listing for 99p - starting to run out of those though - need a free listing day!
5 items will currently sell and one is doing really well for what it is. Need to identify this week's bits.

Phew - I'll report my progress later in the weekend! Happy decluttering everyone.

In addition to the above I've taken some leaflets and a poster for my music group to the theatre that are selling our tickets, OH sorted out a pile of things from his bedside drawers and we've got a pile of stuff to go in the confidential waste where I work (would break the shredder if it went in there I think and we'd be here for ever :o)

Can't believe there's much stuff left in the house now but there is. Keep up the good work everyone.

All I've managed to do today is shred some papers & put the shreddingson the compost heap :( Must get my a**e in gear and clear up the front bedroom & sort out my pension paperword for the IFA on Wednesday - it would help if I knew what I was talking about when I see him;) I WILL DO IT TOMORROW
