  • I've set myself an ambitious challenge which I estimate will take me approximately 15 years!!.

The challenge is to become an ISA millionaire, i.e. make my ISA worth £1 million (or more) in 15 years' time (2026).

To do this, I've determined that I'll need to achieve 15% annualised growth - ambitious but certainly not unachieveable given long-term annual growth of circa-12% in stocks & shares.

I have absolutely no idea what I'll do with the money in 15 years' time, but I've got long enough to think about it!

Obviously, £1 million in 15 years' time will buy a lot less than £1m would today (due to inflation), but I was simply looking for a new challenge after clearing my mortgage 3 years ago.

    Wish me luck!
    Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
    Mortgage July 2007 - £0
Original Mortgage Termination Date - Nov 2018
    Mortgage Interest saved - £63790.60
    ISA Profit since Jan 1st 2015 - 98.2% (updated 1 Dec 2020)
  • As a few have already put, I'm not going to buy any magazines in 2011. The kids only get them because they have gifts on the front but we pay the earth for them. I'll start taking a book with me for all those occasions I would have bought mags - waiting at docs, waiting for kids etc. If the kids want them they buy them out of their pocket money and hopefully they will come to realise there is more they could spend their money on.
  • To declutter (major undertaking),to read more (have a lot of as-yet-unread books) and to carry on having a monthly budget and sticking to it.

Mine is to find a job closer to home.

    Become part qualified.

    Think carefully before buying anything.

Finish renovating the house - well the big stuff.

Make more jam/chutney and keep for Christmas presents rather than giving them away...especially seeing how Twinks hob nobs went down a storm!!!

Plough more time into the garden, once the house is done.

Start working out again so I can move better and am not so stiff!
  • My money saving resolutions are:

Declutter and sell more on Ebay
Buy much less - especially clothes, shoes, bags, toiletries, make up - my new mantra for 2011 will be "is it a need or is it a want?" If it is a need then I will buy it, if it is a want then I will try to walk away!
Reduce my toiletry and make up stash by at least 50% this year
Be more organised about birthdays so I don't end up panicking and spending more than I would normally because I need to find something urgently
Complete the £365 in 365 days challenge

Feeling positive about this year and hope that by this time next year I will have decluttered enough to be able to decorate some of the bedrooms
  • dont buy wine! £40 PM SAVED NO BRAINER.X

Use up stuff that I have rather than buying more (i.e. toiletries and craft stuff mostly, also applies to food in the sense that I'll have a good sort out and use what I can before buying more of the stuff I regularly use)

    Sell clutter on ebay

Get a lodger or two. Now that hubby has moved out I could use the company as well as the rent money.

Quit all Zynga games on Facebook, and use the extra time to do more crafting and to decorate the spare room ready for the lodger.

Plan ahead for food, don't find myself out and about with no lunch so I have to go to McDonalds or a sandwich shop.

Batch cook and freeze portions so I always have easy meals available.

Get my savings account to at least £1,000 positive by the end of the year (after Christmas).
  • We're going to be moving house in the next couple of months so I intend on sorting all of our stuff out, giving loads of it away to charity and starting to pack early. Actually put things on eBay instead of putting them in a box and never getting round to it.

Only buy things that will complement the new colour sceme and have a nice, co-ordinating, grown-up house that isn't just a mishmash of anything I found that I liked the look of. Stop being such a hoarder :o

Pay off all debts and things before we move so we can start with a clean slate.

Be upfront about money and bills and don't ignore them as that's where problems start! Make a realistic budget for the month and stick to it.

Start cooking real food again as lately I've slowly slipped back into buying processed freezer rubbish which is expensive and unhealthy.
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

We moved into a HUGE HUGE house into a STILL BIG BUT MUCH SMALLER house three years ago.

    We can't move for STUFF.

So decluttering is the big one - it's never going to fit here, so I might just as well get rid of it!

Also want to be far more organised about meal planning and STICK to my budgets.

DS is going to university in September so want some savings in place as he'll doubtless need financial support for day-to-day living.

Unlike others on here I haven't got a magazine problem - could I suggest that those who do try to form a magazine co-operative with friends? Three of us at work buy one magazine each a month and swap - works out much cheaper for all of us...
