I'm determined that 2011 is going to be the year I get my spending under control. And groceries is a huge outlay in this house.
I'm going to experiment with different cuts of meat (very proud of myself - just bought chicken thighs instead of breasts for a curry in the week!:D) and will try and use up everything I have. Am disgusted with how much we waste!:(
Please could my budget be £170 for January (for myself, OH, 5 year old and 2 stepkids every other weekend)
Thank you!
Miss P
xx
The way I do chicken curries at the lowest price is to buy and cook a whole chicken(approx £4) Remove the breasts for cold snacks/sandwiches/roast or whatever and to use the remaining meat on the chicken(2 legs and 2 wings plus a few bits fom breast and underside)for the curry. Low cost, no waste and not buying a trayful of bones! At £s per kilo I really have found this the cheapest and best method.
I used to buy "hand of pork" that was another underated cut I found and is great slowcooked then used in a casserole or sweet and sour. Well done on experimenting. If I want to treat myself to something really quick and a bit different(not really cheap tho)Ive bought chilled or frozen lamb shanks-normally come boxed in a sauce/gravy at approx £5 for 2 servings(shanks) in IcelandAnnual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0 -
