Happy New Year! Bit early I know but I won't be posting for a few days

I still need to add up an declare my December figure. I do know that it was nearly double my original target. The worrying thing is I stuck to my meal plan over Christmas, didn't buy any extras and don't have huge amounts of stuff left:eek:

One of my goals this year is to eat more organic and locally produced food. I expect this to cost me more than what I buy now so I need to find savings elsewhere in my grocery spending. My plan is to start by replacing the fresh stuff with organic and then the cupboard staples/freezer stuff as I run out of what I have got.

DH has asked me to start making home made bread again as he has gone off supermarket bread. I did use a bread maker but want to try making it by hand instead. He has also decided to eat less meat as he has been researching how to cope with stress, which he is suffering from at the moment, and one suggestion is that less caffeine and less meat may help. We will see if it works:) As I am a veggie this will make it easier for me to batch cook and make savings if I do not have to buy as much meat. I would like to replace what he does have with organic though.

Please can you put me down for a generous £300 for January, 1st to 31st. This is for 2 adults, 1 8 month old and 2 jack russells and will include all food, alcohol, toiletries, nappies, dog food, cleaning stuff and meals/coffee etc. outside the home.

    Thanks

I've just declared for December, so thought I'd come and get started on January early.

My month runs from 3rd to 30th January, 28 days, and I'm trimming my budget by £10 a week in the hope of starting the year as we mean to go on, so can I go on the list at £240 please :)

We have plenty left over from December, as typically enough the kids managed to bring a tummy bug home with them from school which lasted until Boxing Day so the meal plan went out of the window. I have bread and milk to see us through to Tuesday, and about a week-10 days of every thing else, so I don't expect to shop much until the second week (there will be some interesting lunch boxes, but what the heck, lol).

Good luck everyone, and happy new year :D

  • Please can you put me down for £300 for Jan. Determined to eat more fruit and veg so not sure how that will effect the budget.

Off to shop later for drinks for tomorrow night - we are having a few freinds over with their kids for a takeaway and a few drinks. May have to come out of entertainment budget or is that a bad attitude at the start of the year!!!:)

    Good luck everyone.:T

  • Have just done what will count as my first shop of 2011, to arrive tomorrow morning, wasn't too bad considering I've stocked up a bit on toilet paper etc ahead of the vat increase. Even considering making DS's birthday cake  instead of buying one, my limit on cake baking is normally fairy cakes :rotfl:but will see how things are going in a few weeks :)
