Just spent £1.55 on some milk so am slightly over for this month, not by much though!

I did have enough this morning, but decided to use some of my frozen bananas for a milkshake (very nice indeed!) so used what I had. I got 4pts this time (usually get 2) as will try and use the rest of the bananas in the next few days.

I am on £654.09 against a budget of £450 so not a resounding success this month. Looking at the breakdown I would have come in at £381.21 if I hadnt done a huge stocking up shop and also a freezer filling £117 bulk buy at the butchers. Going forwards I wont be able to shop without the children so I wanted to stock up on a few months worth of on offer packed lunch bits and cereal. I suspect this is part of my inner need to be supermum and prove I can balance family and super professional career

Started clearing out kitchen cupboards today but have only managed the tupperware one and the one under the sink!

Made Jamie Oliver's Coley Curry but had to use Whiting instead as no coley to be had at the fish shop! Just as cheap apparently and very tasty.

Took DS17 out for driving practice today and had to run into MrT as the front 'L' plate flew off on a fast bit of road and we had to buy another set! Couldn't resist looking at the Whoopsies and managed to get a spatchcock chicken reduced from £5 to £1.45 which we'll have tomorrow with some veg, a WW quiche for 45p and some mini apple crumbles.

We are over budget by £30 but I know we have enough food for at least the next week. Hopefully won't need to shop for food until next weekend fingers crossed.

So we are declaring at £410 for the bees for January

I would like to decare Total spent for January as £319.00, which makes me £31.00 under budget, which I have to say, I am really happy with.

I just started the challenge half way through the month and had already spent just over £300 then, so we have done without a supermarket shop this week and still have a few bits in the freezer. The only thing getting really low is bread, but we should survive till the Tesc*'s delivery on Tuesday.

Can you put me down for £260, for the Febuary Grocery Challenge as its a short month. (that's for me and OH, baby, 2 cats and a goldfish).

Thanks to the challenge organisers for doing this, and for the motivation from everyone, I would have just carried on with my normal out of control spending otherwise! Keep up the good work everyone.

    Hi All!

I hope you're all having a good weekend. As part of my doing something new every weekend or so I went to Portobello Market - and um...I didn't like it. Despite living in London, the crowds were excessive even to me!!!. Went back into town and went my favourite Korean restaurant - meal, drinks and starters for £15 so added to signature.

I'm really not sure what's happened this month - I've been to restaurants for a meal twice yet I'm still under budget. I guess leftover food from Xmas helped, but I'm really not used to this feeling of being able to do things at the end of the month! I really can't express the thanks for the support everyone has provided - if I could do virtual jumps through the computer screen to hug I would!!! :rotfl:

  • Declaring £319.26 for Jan budget was £250  annoyed with myself that we didn't succeed on our first challenge. We know where we went wrong so can hopefully learn from this and be more successful next month. Please put me down for £250 for Feb.

I've almost reached my budget limit for January..but have run out of margarine.

Instead, we've been using what i usually use just for cooking....Stork Margarine (15p for 100g).
This seems to taste ok on toast to me...am thinking of sneakily adding some Stork to the empty 'Can't believe it's not Butter' carton, to see if anyone else notices!!

Really don't want to rock up to the supermarket again this month...determined to stay in budget til my deadline, Feb 1st, Tuesday!

This is SO funny. :rotfl:It reminds me of when i used to live with my parents and my Dad would only eat certain things. SO many times my Mum would pour semi skimmed milk into a blue topped bottle, or flora into a blueband tub, or maxwell house into the mellow birds jar.... and did he ever notice??? of course he didnt!! and i would say 'is your coffee ok Dad', 'yes lovely thanks'. HAHAHAHAAA:D:D:D

Right so, I'm declaring, having bought my takeaway and a load of sweeties for DD's sleepover last evening in Waitrose.

Which brings January to a merry close of £334.03, a staggering £5.97 within budget *does happy dance* :j:j:j

I have been away for a few days, but it didn't cost very much. Two nights in a Youth Hostel for £28.80, plus petrol to get there and back 135 miles total. I took my own food so had very cheap meals and pack up, and walked 30 miles.

On the way back I pass a Tes&co and spent £5.10 on veg, got quite a lot as it was reduced, so that will last me for a week.
    I love skip diving.
