so you would take away the daughters phone to sell just because your in hardship
also how do we know she did not win the phone lucozade were doing a competition to win one

you lot know nothing of the circumstances and are yet all very quick to judge

I made no mention of the phone whoevers it is.

Mine was a general post on people claiming poverty and/or benefits, when they have luxuries, whether won in competitions or not, that could be sold to ease their financial worries.

All many assumptions here with regards to the O/P .
I am glad that I have not had to use a 'loan shop'. I cant imagine the personal level of embarrassment it must be asking someone for such a desperate amount of money. The fact the woman comes out joyful with just £40 shows the amount of relief it must be for that family. Then how would you even know it was a brand new iphone? Since the original 2g and until the iphone 4 they all looked the same. It may be a lot older than you think and maybe the person saved long and hard for it. Or maybe just maybe the family where like you and me but then suddenly their lives got ripped apart by redundancy or ill health. Never judge a book by its cover.

Dont have a go at the op for stating something we have all thought many times in different situations. I dont know how many times I have seen people with the uggs (real ones ) the bugaboo prams and the Iphones and thought what am I doing wrong in life.

People wearing and holding these materials doesn't necissarily mean that they are sponging, however they could be.
I bought my fiancee an iPhone and a pair of Uggs for Christmas but i'll be putting money into my savings account this payday, hard graft pays.
Regarding the original post. It's sad but this is the world we live in at the moment. Alot of people would of took out loans just to put decent clothes on their childrens backs, a new PS3 or Xbox and the rates that they will be paying these back will be shocking. Some cases paying back over years, then they'll come on this website in 11 months time asking for the best advice on which loan to take out to consolidate a loan and to fund next Christmas.
  • I work on a machine at work and my assistant is like that.

He comes in to work with all the latest 'bling' one week and then the next week he has to sell it all at a loss in order to pay off some kind of bill. I know he regularly visits these payday loan places.

At 18 years old, I suspect he won't be out of debt any time soon.

but its their daughters .. yes if it was mums phone i would fully agree with you ..

rob m8 but mum had no money and dad had none and poor little daughter had no money but they had a iphone worth xxx that they could not even afford to credit.. surely you get the irony of it all..

I live near a town that i was in yesterday and i refuse to go there often as it is just full of society's bottom feeders. The local asda has to be seen to be believed..i have honestly seen people shopping in dressing gowns and slippers..also the mouths on the mothers shouting at the kids would make a docker blush ..i come away angry sad and confused as i just can not see a way out and if these people are breeding at the rate they are with no thought for anyone else ...i feel we will end up in a very very dark place.
    where did we go wrong?
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
