It sounds like you've undersized the stove. If your room is 100 cubic metres then that's around 7.1kw needed to heat it. You've bought a stove with a maximum of 8kW..........the max of 8kW will have been achieved by running flat out on a high quality smokeless fuel with regular refuelling.

I'd bet you'd struggle to get 6.5kw out of it running on wood.....also if your wood isn't the driest you may be looking at 4kW or so........bigger stove required i'm afraid or hotter fuel.

If a room came out at requiring 7kW I'd be heading in the direction of a 10kW stove.

Have you used a stove before and do you know how to run them most efficiently? As they don't give out their max heat with the air inlets fully open? You need to close them down a little to keep the heat in the firebox so it transfers to the casing of the stove.
  • 600mm off the stove is recommended but there's no regs regarding it. You could go 300mm straight to 45 deg bend to 300mm into breast.

One of the problems with this forum is people not reading posts correctly completely missing the point of PREHEATED air wash. Makes a huge difference to keeping the glass clean! All because they're too eager to try to prove someone wrong. Fail.

The Dunsley Highlander 5 is also very nicely made. Also in a different league when it comes to build quality. Looks let it down a little though but plenty seem to like it.

I've installed thousands of stoves and used hundreds and I reckon the Highlander 5 is one of the best at the £600 mark.
hi crphilips as a fitter would you know how to fit a new handle on the highlander 5 as i had the black one on but they (seller) sent it back for a brass one which i prefered but i cant seem to get it to close tightly as i didnt see the other one come off i cant work out which way the various washers go on in what sequence and which way the locking bit faces if you know what i mean,ta.
