One in six employers won't hire young people

If any uni had links with industry, they would know that there are not enough jobs for tens of thousands of media studies graduates.0

Maybe all it needs is more cooperation between universities and employers? That way people can see the value of the degree?
Maybe every degree needs a year out in 'industry' and links to local employers?
If you plan to work in industry there's usually a degree course option for that, however there's usually limited numbers of places. About a dozen people on my course opted for the 4 year course which included a placement in industry. Glad I didn't, since after I did my masters I only spend 3 years working in genetics before i realised it was underpaid (so i moved industries to IT)
A year in industry would have been quite a waste for me0 -

You've not seen the rest of my CV. The bits including my MSc and past IT experience. I'm well trained and hold a professional IT job (Medical software Interface Architect). I miss genetics a bit.. it was fun presenting at conferences and stuff, plus you got to work at the bleeding edge or research. We were designing analysis software for the healthcare of the future.0 -

What sort of medical software is it? Just curious as if it involves the spine, heaven help you!0 -

I avoid websphere and the spine personally, although my team does deal with PDS/SDS messaging. My bits are the inter-department systems like radiology/pathology. However i have been involved in the design of our SCR (Summary care record) system and the NHS number registration service for babies (NN4B). Our firm makes healthcare software for pretty much every hospital departmentWhat sort of medical software is it? Just curious as if it involves the spine, heaven help you!0 -

Always wanted to know what HR depts did (apart from arranging myriads of pointless training courses).
You forgot the most important that.

Labour did too little but that 'little' is more than what young people will get nowRunning_Horse wrote: »And what happened to long term youth unemployment under Labour?0
