Or maybe we would be better off without them because a nice pleasant quiet shop would become a manic free for all as in the likes of Tescos and might even push the prices up. Better to keep it for the few who know what quality and value truly is!

Right across the road from my local Lidl's is a giant shopping center,Bloomfields, which along with other shops house Tesco & M&S.

When Lidl's put in there planning application about ten years ago,Tesco's objected to it however it was overturned on the old competition argument.Lidl's is generally bunged on the weekends. The only thing I find annoying about Lidl's is even tho they have five check out's,at busy times they seem unable to put more than two operators on,leading to long queue's especially if you have a couple items & the people in front have trolleys bunged to overflowing!
They should really have a ten item or less operating during busy times.

I bought two of those lobsters for our starter on Christmas day as I have on previous Christmases. For a fiver I think they're excellent value. I honestly believe that the OP must have had unrealistic expectations

I bought two for Boxing Day - used the tail and claw meat and there was plenty for 3 people (I used the recipe on the Lidl recipe cards - it was very tasty!). Its too rich to eat a lot of really :)

I buy from a variety of supermarkets - Sainsburys, Lidl, Waitrose, Aldi & Tesco - I'm on a limited budget so shopping around can make a big difference to the weekly budget :D. As I cook from scratch rather than buying pre-made meals, I don't notice any difference between carrots from Aldi and carrots from Waitrose :o

We got one of these last Christmas to have as a starter for our Christmas Dinner.

We had half each, mixed the lobster meat with a 'thermidor' type sauce, grilled it and had it with a small salad - thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lidl's is always my first port of call when shopping - not particularly keen on their fresh meat - but totally addicted to their potato salad made with creme fraiche.:D

whats the country of origin of the lobsters? Surely not British at that size or price.

A minimum size British lobster would be around 450g, and would be more than enough for 1 person. I've no idea how much it would cost (i catch my own), but it would be a lot more than a fiver. Worth it tho, in my opinion.

I believe that they're from Canada and they are worth a fiver of anyone's money. Except perhaps someone who has never bought a lobster before.

not bought much in lidl,s but find there cheeses and cooked meats good value, also small bottles of beer usually good price also, should really try more from it,but its 30 miles away and if we go to inverness we have choice of 3 tesco,s,morrisons, aldi, lidl and co-op so usually go to one that closest(morrisons or tesco)

Me and DH had one each yesterday.
They were bigger than we expected for £5, also they had decent sized claws with plenty of meat in which was a nice surprise.

I dont eat shellfish so dont buy the stuff but i would have thought for a lobster it would cost more than £5 for something decent so you gets what you paid for but saying that the other food from lidl is pretty good

teh queues go fast though, the thing that holds it up are the people who decide to be clever and pack at the till rather than follow the rules

Or those who wait until they're at the till to ask where an item is & then hold everyone up while an assistant goes & fetches the item for them.

That happens a lot in my local one.
