I bought one of these (from Aldi but same weight and price) for a lobster risotto and to be honest although yep it is small I did get more then enough meat out for 2 people and used the shell for the stock so all in all I was happy at the price.
I really miss Aldi's Ostrich meat as that use to make fab steak and chips with home made peppercorn sauce, so much nicer then beef.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

I bought 2 of these to have on xmas eve and (after going on you tube to find out what to do with them!) cooked it and got busy with the nutcrackers, I was disappointed with the amount of meat in them and for £10 seemed poor value, didnt like it much and the sight of it scared the bejeezus out of me. Having said that, if you are a fan of lobster and want a different treat then I suppose its ok, I wont have it again as its not my thing really...
btw, I luuuuuuuurve Lidl! I shop there every week and well impressed by the quality of the food and the prices are good.Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000
Save £12k in 2013 no.34 £11,800/£12,000
'How much can you save' thread = £7,050
Total=£29,100
Mfi3 no. 88: Balance Jan '06 = £63,000. :mad:
Balance 23.11.09 = £nil.0 -
Generally I find the quality of Lidl's food is very good.I often buy the big packs of cooking bacon,(great value for a bacon butty) & up until they stopped stocking them (Why Lidl...why!?) the Bratties...Currywurst on a Saturday after a few in the rugby club...yummy!
The tinned stuff is a fraction of the cost of Tesco & just as good,the biscuits are on par with main brands.
All those who have never shopped in Lidl or Aldi should !!!!!! & give it a go!! They might be pleasantly surprised! (but then what would they moan about!?)0 -
There's an old saying - "You get what you pay for", and it's one of the truths in life.

I have to say, I don't agree. Remember, this is Britain; you could pay £5 or £500 for the same thing. Let the buyer beware. Some of the food is quite good at Lidl, I have started shopping there too. Not all is good though.0 -

Well its as good as tesco value flour just more expensive.Lets not use quidco0 -

Tesco strong white bread flour is around £1.40, Lidls is about 48p.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
I bought two of those lobsters for our starter on Christmas day as I have on previous Christmases. For a fiver I think they're excellent value. I honestly believe that the OP must have had unrealistic expectations0

whats the country of origin of the lobsters? Surely not British at that size or price.
A minimum size british lobster would be around 450g, and would be more than enough for 1 person. I've no idea how much it would cost (i catch my own), but it would be a lot more than a fiver. Worth it tho, in my opinion.0 -

Or maybe we would be better off without them because a nice pleasant quiet shop would become a manic free for all as in the likes of Tescos and might even push the prices up. Better to keep it for the few who know what quality and value truly is!0 -

I always think that when I read these threads as well.0
