I know someone who bought a CD player from Curry's, when they were over £100, when it was opened there was a carefully cut to weigh the same as a CD player breeze block in the box, the box did not look tampered with either. He did eventually get a CD player but they were not happy with the story, good luck OP I hope upi get sprted.

Cash Converters may have a record of the item and possibly a credit card number of the buyer - maybe worth talking to the police about it, and of course Currys' branch manager may have had other goods swapped with this scam so it may not be news to him either.

If they don't accept your version of events I'd insist in a rather loud fashion that the manager calls the police because they're effectively accusing you of fraud. Then let everyone in the store know what's happening whilst you're waiting (I very much doubt he'll call) Someone swapped the items, they're saying it's you. I'd be kicking up such a shytstorn as a matter of principle, prove it's you and prosecute or refund, simples.

They don't need to prove it, nor are they responsible for prosecuting so aside from causing a scene and trying to embarass the store manager into giving a refund this seems a fairly pointless tactic.

If you are calm and mature and honest about it then I am sure you will get a positive result. If you go in shouting the odds there is no doubt you will get rejected and probably ejected.

i thought they had to keep all records, so that they can be contacted for any sales of stolen goods that might go through them?

Doesn't the shop have to accept that faults are inherent for the first 6 months?

If you have no luck with the store try trading standards as they may be able to help as the shop is refusing to take responsibility.

Did you buy it on with a credit card and did it cost £100 or more as if it did then your credit card co will be jointly liable.

The OP's tried the calm approach already. I'm not advocating a kick off, more of a stand your ground approach. As it stands the store are saying "go away we don't believe you" which is incredibly insulting and an allegation of fraud. If they believed the OP they'd have exchanged in a flash. I'd be telling them to exchange it or call the police and have me arrested for fraud, get them to put their money where their mouth is.

It's a matter of black and white where the store are trying to bring dirty shades of grey into it

Again, why would they get you prosecuted, they would be more likely to get you ejected from the store.

Your two statements appear to disagree. You can stand your ground or you can be loud, cause a scene and get yourself thrown out.

If they accept the OPs chain of events then they are admitting themselves that they attempted to defraud the OP so I cannot see them rushing to do that.

It's a mexican stand-off and the only resolution needs to be one of goodwill (since the OP can offer no proof as to their claims) and will only be achievable if the OP can reason with the retailer.
