The store by refusing a refund has taken the stance that the OP is lying and has effectively committed fraud by false representation. They should call the police.

The point I'm making is they either believe the OP and refund or don't and prosecute. It seems they're saying "we think you're trying it on but jog on and we'll leave it at that"

Which is by far the easiest, cheapest and hassle free version of events for the store to pursue

What happens if you buy something before xmas and when it's opened on the day it's not what it says on the box?

Someone I know bought an item, when it was opened on the big day, the box had obviously been bought before, the original taken from the box and replaced with a cheaper brand version then resealed. When my friend tried to return the item they won't accept it back.

    What should she do?

Ignore those on here how think they own the board and criticise other comments without offering any real help.

If you get nowhere with the store try you local gov (county council) trading standards or CAB as their phone call can often make a difference.

Exactly, and to hell with the OP being out of pocket as long as the store's ok eh?

If the OPs friend (not the OP) can prove that what was posted is true then they will not be out of pocket at all.

However that is not an necessarily easy thing to do.

Or ask what their complaints procedure is and how you escalate;)
  • Hi wow! I missed all the replies.....Well we went back to Currys with Item Hubby had a few words with store manager stayed calm, after a few words Hubby left item on desk and went to get another Blu-Ray player only to be told by sections manager they were out the back in warehouse, he was quickly briefed by phone before we got to Blu-ray section. we Hubby then approached Manager once again and Manager said he will look into it but not today as system were partially closed...fair enough....he apologised and took our details and said he will call me probably Thursday, he said it "will" go in our favour and if they didn't have the one we wanted in stock he would gladly offer us another one with a Discount!........Im pleased with that
    Thanks for all replies x

OP - I hope you manage to get the player changed for the right one.

Hopefully Currys will get in contact with cash converters to try and trace the low-life that brought the player back to the shop.

Well done Currys, they deserve some praise really.
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
