New PC blew up!

More than likely it will be a blown fuse inside the PSU. I had a customer who did the same thing (by accident), I changed the fuse and all was well.
Dropping the voltage to 110 should not damage the MoBo as it is half the normal operating voltage, so it just won't fire-up.
Let's hope that's all it is.0 -

The why did he do it question !
The only actual example in the days of PS2 only mice. Xp SP2 and laser mouse came out the [ 14 year old ] kid concerned found his mouse was not working. The bright pretty red light was not on underneath the mouse. Couldn't figure why, so apparently he looked for a corresponding red switch to ' switch ' his mouse back on. That's what the poor little fellah told me.
As stated earlier only the PSU was goosed and I mean a sticky / smelly / melted lump.
To the O/P, beg / borrow a PSU and try it, if its ok buy one of your own - at your own risk of course.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. My son did this several years ago, everything was killed except the drives.
Since then I've not bought cheap PSU, but no amount of money can compensate for stupidity.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -

That logic doesn't quite work. The 110V setting doesn't reduce the supply voltage which is still 220V. It effectively doubles the voltage coming out of the supply transformer - a 20V winding will produce 40V. That's going to blow fuses at the very best, probably frazzle the PSU regulators too and if you are unlucky, which is possible, fry the regulators and possibly other components on the mobo too. There's love in this world for everyone. Bout time people started owning up to their own incompetence....
I had to pay out for two warranty claims this month, it turns out both of these warranty claims were "user errors."
I also lost two laptops to thieves. Great Christmas, I'm £500 out of pocket.

She will if necessary but hopes it doesn't come to that. And leave the techie stuff to the techies...
She didn't want to bother me at Christmas. It should have been failry simple as all was done apart from connecting it up.
It was a silly mistake but they do happen.0 -

ohhh....do tell
I guess I ought to look at other parts of this site, and you're the one to direct me
I'm looking after my parents house while they're away for winter..they have a fairly new condenser boiler, outlet outside, which froze resulting in the boiler turning off. I discovered this a few days ago when I went for a weekly house check and saw the icicle hanging from the kitchen tap.
Seems all pipes in the house are frozen solid..I think I may be in trouble
Not plucked up the courage to tell them yet..probably gonna do that later today, they most likely have a guarantee or service contract...biggest fear is bursting pipes

The outlet outside is usually a 1" plaggy pipe, couple of kettles of boiling water and the four inch long one inch diameter bullets of ice will fall from the end.
That's usually what switches it off and causes all the subsequent issues. When repaired make sure its [ future proofed ] well [ boxed ] lagged!Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
