Has anyone seen any plain red wrapping paper around? The only ones I can find is metallic and Its not quite what I want.
Don't know if its still around but before Xmas Tesco had Value plain red wrapping paper at 3 for 2 - and think it was only about 15p a roll anyway - I stocked up - not bad quality.

There is some plain red wrapping paper in the birthday section of Asda, about £1 a roll I think

Tezco has some down to 7p for 2 or 3 meters - i got 3 :) they will do for birthday wrapping during the year.

My list from earlier, just amending with my updates (in purple)

My aims for Christmas 2011 is
    • get wrapping paper - ive had my current lot for 3 years now, but im down to the last roll. Picked up 3 plain red at 7p each for 2 or 3 meters, and 6 x 20 meters for £1 each PLUS 3 for 2 - these will hopefully last me 2 or 3 years now.
    • dont need christmas cards - got a few boxes last year and forgot about them! (put them in with the christmas tree, but i didnt go get that down till a few days before christmas - do'h!)
    • collect hamper type boxes, baskets etc.
    • pick up bargins throughout the year
    • aim to wrap as i go, or at least by November - I am NOT doing it all on Christmas Eve again!
    • aim to be as homemade as possible - not including my son, who will be 4, and try as i might, i cant replicate many of his prefered toys.
Also, to generate some cash, I aim to make:

    • 12 baby blankets (1 a month)
    • crochet some toys to sell
    • crochet toy cakes for little girls tea sets
    • jumbo cupcakes - need to find a stockist of boxes to fit! (pic of 1 is on my blog)
    • a collection of 'luxuary' scarves, hats and gloves
    • knit baby building blocks
    • make those wheat bags to heat up
    • making expensive looking beeswax candles - ordered the beeswax to get me started :)
Spreadsheet began with lists for where everything is, gift list, rrp of item and price i paid so i can see how much im actually saving, etc etc....

In Morrisons they are selling (much reduced) xmas shopping bags - one lady was buying a couple to use as xmas gift bags - they are bigger and stronger though and have, apparently, flashing lights.

No good for me though as I just recycle all the bags I get;)

Maybe it wil help someone - I believe they were down to 69p from £2.99 but that's if I was looking at the right SEL

  • Hi all,

Just seen this thread, please can I join? Just joined another thread, but was a big follower of this thread a few years back (in my student days).

Don't know if this is any help, but just been to my Cancer Research shop in town ansd they have thier cards reduced, lots are 49p and 69p. They have images that could easily be cut up into card toppers etc. Needless to say I bought a few :) Also in Asda they have these beautiful, silver, glittery snowflakes in a 10pk for 50p. They are meant for the tree but you are supposed to put the thread on yourself, am thinking I could stick them onto some cards for next year.....or if I don't I'll put them on the tree! Also stocked up on the candy canes for next years snowman soups. The Works and Superdrug had them reduced...can't remember how much.

Same for me :) My MIL gives me hers and her partners back to me so I can use them next year too, I keep the ones from her though as she doesn't want to reuse them....would be rude to waste them!

  • hi,

i've read through the thread and would like to join you.

i have already got all my xmas paper and cards (some in the sales since boxing day, others that have been left from other years but again bought in sales!) i also have 3 gifts which may get used for kids birthdays or xmas.

not really xmas gifts as such BUT i have bought cheap "supplies" for the magic elves that come to stay - canvas painting kits, plaster paris kits, xmas balloons, puppet kits, bubble baths, stampers etc.

i try and buy throughout the year (easier with 3 kids) as and when i see something, then come november/december i get the bits the kids ask for! i am going to try and save as many £1 coins as i can BUT due to OH being made redundant 10th dec due to being in a RTA money is tight. BUT any we can save will be good!

the bags are great- i picked up 4 xmas eve when i left my bags at home i paid £1.29 each for them, very strong and reusable. only snag is they dont fold very flat/small due to solid handles and light bits.

depends on how big you want them, my local £1 shop (not poundland) had some bit bigger than A4 but not as big as A3, about 4" deep.

  • Thanks Wendywitch & 7roland8. I managed to get some of the Tesco value paper today. It is ideal for what I want. I also picked up some pink, purple and silver metallic paper and some Hello Kitty paper which was reduced to 50p. Hopefully that will be enough as i still have some bits left over from this year.

I picked up 2 packs of 3 pretty nail files for 50p each in Superdrug for the adults hampers and a Colourworks make up brush set for my niece for £2. Also picked up a smelly set from B & M reduced to £1. I was very good today as there were quite a few bargains to be had but I didnt have a need for them. I must be getting sensible in my old age.
