hi emma.
more <<hugs>> to Soulie.... sorry, I can't help out posting wise for next few days back at workReally hope the hunt goes well today.
i was very very very good.......... found 2 cross stitch books in my local charity shop...............and didn't buy either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well i managed a little bit more of princess palace last night (not half as much as i thought i'd get done tho) have almost finsihed the up piller I am working on and onyl have about 20 more rows before I can cut away the top fabric excess.... wahoooo........ then it'lll be down to the bottom corner (A3) to make a proper start. Put it away again for this week and will be back to cabbage patch tonight... am sooo enjoying that one. trouble is you can't physically do the backstitch as you go along due to the amount of confetti stitching so I'll haev to attempt it all at the end - BOO. Then i realised yesterday I have miscounted and it is one square wider then it should be so just tweaking it to make it look right I am NOT unpicking half of it.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
Hi Emma,
does your HAED pattern say if you stitch over one thread or two on the 25 count fabric ? If it's only one then your sewing will turn out a lot bigger on 14 count (almost twice as big).

I don't wash my aida after I've stitched on it - too scared to, although I only use Anchor and DMC threads. I just try to keep my stitching as clean as possible throughout - wash my hands before any stitching, no handcream, no food or drink near it.
Am I being a wus? :eek:0 -
You could just stitch a thread through to make the squares - then you'd just pull it out at the end... it takes a lot longer to do, but you resolve your issue
Personally, I dip all of mine in the washing up bowl filled with warm water with a squidge of washing powder/liquid in, and then dry it over night and give it a nice iron. DMC and Anchor are both sold. as colourfast, so it should be fine. Nothing's gone wrong for me (liability not accepted for disasters though)0 -

I get frustrated enough pulling out waste canvas threads. Maybe I'll get past the washing issues0 -

Hi Linda it says stitch over 1 personal preference of one or two threads, the smallest I have stitched on is 18 count I think so i'm just a bit wary of the 25 and don't want to end up cross eyedMum to 4 beautiful children
2011 Goals declutter the house  decluttered 42 items :j0 -
The blue pen needs so little water to wash it out, maybe try a cotton wool ball dipped in water and dabbed on the blue
Alternatively - you can buy special marked aida... http://www.dmc.com/majic/pageServer/1v010002cw/en/Magic-Guide-Fabric.html but you still need to wash it...0 -

I machine washed a baby afghan blanket - I mean, what's the use of making someone a baby blanket if you can't machine wash it? I will admit to sitting by the machine with heart in mouth 'til I knew it came out OK though
For marking the fabric, you could also try thin (6 - 10lb) fishing line. Because it's nylon, it slides out really easily, and you can't pierce it acidentally with a blunt tapestry needle so it doesn't get trapped.0 -
Hi Emma welcome
For anyone's advice really:
Getting quite interested in the HAED designs for stockings.. What's it like stitching on linen? Is the design preprinted?
Nearly finished new baby card.. in 4 days (phew!) Will post pic when done :-) seems silly to show pic of progress when there's only another hours worth of work to do !0 -
Welcome Emma! :wave:Apocasaver wrote: »Mountain Ash - great progress on the Sunflowers, although I can't see the zebra cushion for some reason.
I couldn't see it either but if you click on one of the links to the pics you can see then at the top of the pic you have a next and previous, I hit the next and was able to see the cushion that way.I don't wash my aida after I've stitched on it - too scared to, although I only use Anchor and DMC threads. No you aren't a wus....unless we both are! :rotfl:
I too haven't ever washed a piece because like you I keep it very clean.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
