  • I like the card and the bathroom rules. The latter would be brilliant for my family, but our bathroom is so damp and mouldy that I wouldn't put anything in there!

I've been looking at cross stitch card kits as I had decided it'd be nice to stitch my cards this year, but it seems to cost a lot of money. Considering I'd buy a card for 50p - £1 I've realised it'd be very un-mse of me to stitch them instead! I will still do one for my mum's 60th though as that's a special occasion, but I haven't seen anything I like yet.

On with the rocket for now, although I'm not enjoying it much!

These are the frames I use and love them.....even more so now I have the floor stand too!
Anyway, what I do when starting is find the centre of the fabric and mark it. Then lay the edge of your fabric on top of the groove that the clips clip into then clip the clips on. Don't go too close to the edge of the fabric though because it will slip out either when you tension the fabric or just over time. I try to use a line of holes as a guide to keep the fabric straight when clipping because this helps keeps even tension when stitching.
Do the same on other side.
Then you come to roll up and tension the fabric. I loosely roll mine so that the fabric has an even amount on each side bar and I can see my centre mark and tighten one set of nuts. Then I unroll one side bar, roll it properly (more tighter) and tighten the nuts. Do the same the other side and you should have the centre and a nice tension to your fabric.
Don't roll the bars too tightly though because if you leave your work too tightly rolled, over time the fabric holes will be stretched (been there, done that and learned my lesson...lol) I tighten mine just so there is a slight 'bounce' to the fabric when I touch it.
They are quite big to use and holding them by hand will hurt after a while. Before I got my stand I had to rest the frame on a lowish table so if you have something to lean on it's much easier to use.

I hope that makes sense :o If not let me know which bit/s don't and I'll try to help more :)

thats perfect and i understand totaly, so glad you said about not too tight or i would of done that :othank you so much for your help :A:T:T:T

Do you sit this on a frame? I wondered if you had a light for it (like I do with mine), that maybe to see through the aida you could fix the light upside down to the frame and shine it up at you rather than down on to the fabric to help the holes show up?
Hi, its just the standard frame that you hold rather than the lap frame, i have a light directly above me and the chart underneath its a cream colour so i can make out the holes easier. It was quite hard to see the holes in my hoop so i guess this frame holds it better, black aida is quite a struggle, i thought it would be the same a white. Oh and i thought stitching white on white was bad, black on black is much worse, i can't tell where i've stitched :rotfl:

I am half thinking of doing the same thing withe kiss and hug. Waiting on ink for the printer to print charts off (should be here tomorrow). What size of material did you use for you 14hpi and how many of each dmc colour did you buy to be enough for it.

Sorry for so many questions. Looking forward to the pictures.

I am having dinner at my local pub tonight :j so no cooking or washing up for me !! :D:j :D

I shall raise my glass in memory of Soulie's brother. Soulie and her family are very much in my thoughts at the moment. Hugs of the highest order being sent. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I don't know if you have the latest issue of World of Cross Stitcher, the one with the fizzy moon kit on the front cover :j but I am stitching the Newton bear eating the cake. I only started him this week but he is coming along nicely. I shall try to post a picture at the weekend.

nb if you do have the fizzy moon kit, what do you think ? Its a lovely design and I would love to stitch for my OH for valentines but all those damn backstitches ??? and why oh why such similar colours for the threads which are not sorted for you. It will be a project and a half just to get it ready for stitching.:(

I'm doing a picture to send to my friend in Australia. I've asked at a stall at Wetherby market that does frames and they'd charge me £28.

That's for a square frame off the peg, a new mount (it needs a circular aperture), plastic glass and for them actually to mount it.

Does that sound about right to you lot? I've only ever used frames I buy ready-made and frame them myself.

What size frame? Square frames are quite hard to find sometimes & mounting in a circular mount could be a bit tricky. You could check SD Framing website to see what they'd charge. Postage is expensive on there but it would give you some idea if that's a good price. Unless it's a tiny frame, I think it sounds fair.
