It reminds me of one of my old thread :

The thread above should be interesting reading, though it is about one year old.
My panasonic plasma has worked perfectly since I bought it and the picture is still brilliant, and for gaming it's excellent.

I would go for the 42" panasonic at £350, suggested by Inner Zone (that's even cheaper than my 37" was).

In any case, I would go panasonic.

Same hear, £570 two 1/2 years ago and £350 few months ago, both 37" Panasonic plasmas.
  • Thank you so much for your suggestions.

I ran off to Richer Sounds this evening and got some info.
He seemed to recommend the LG 32ld690. It's 32" for 399quid 439.90 with 5yr warranty. They seemed to have many LG so that was what he showed me. It was the Swiss Cottage one.

    What are your thoughts please?

    Thanks once again!!

It's not the first time I hear about someone going in a shop and be "advised" to get an LG television. They all seemed to want to flog their LG televisions first thing.

The next two links is to give you an idea of what people who own this television think about it. The third link should be interesting just to compare with a plasma.

You can find other reviews on other websites if you google for reviews for this television.
The best way to go about it is to look at as many customer reviews you can find on the TVs you are interested in, make your decision and stick to it when you go to the shop.
(I've never was one to believe what a salesman was telling me anyway)

I would still go for a plasma, but at that price range you would only get HD ready. Richer soungs has the 37" Panasonic plasma HD ready 720p TXP37X20B for £350.

Full HD on a smaller TV than a 42" wouldn't make any difference as you would need to have your nose on the TV to see the difference anyway.
  • Thanks Spark but the first two links are broken.

Went to Richer Sounds to get a TXL 32S20B a couple of days ago. "We don't have it, but we can do a nice LG - they're exactly the same" was the pattter. Shame, I used to rate RS really highly. P.

I did advise a work collegue to buy a panasonic plasma (he still had a gigantic CRT TV). When he got to RS, they started on him with LG TVs but he told them firmly that he wanted a pani plasma.
He got it, with a blu ray player, and was very happy (not the wife though, but she changed her mind when her friends seemed very impressed with "her" last acquisition:D).
They will try to sell you the ones they want to get rid of first, it's up to you to stick to your guns.
I never go to shops because I did notice, in the past, that usually the item I want (which suppose to be on sale) is always out of stock by the time I go to the shop, but more expensive items are fully stocked, or there are plenty of the stuff they want to get rid off (it happen last time I wanted to buy a new printer, and it was the same in 3 different shops, what a joke).
Since then I order everything on the internet, but only from reputable websites.

Thanks for taking time to inform me Spark.

I went to JL and Currys yday. I'd intended to buy the vat increase but it seems I cant make a purchase based on what the sales person says so I'll spend a few more days reading reviews as you've suggested.
Full HD ready 1080 is no longer a must have as it's a 32" I'm buying?
Also it doesn't have to be 100hz as I dont play comp games?

However, I'll like to be able to use it as a desktop with my laptop so I can watch youtube, online movies, view pictures from my camera etc. That's VGA socket right?
I'll also like it to have freeview and at least two scart sockets and picture quality is most important. My budget is 300, 350 max. Sld I consider LED instead of LCD?
What're your thoughts on the sony nx503 at 300quid?

    Any other suggestions welcomed.
    Thanks in advance all.
  • Nx503 at £300 is a bargain. We only had the 403 at that price, the 503 being £380

Decent telly. Panel most likely an LG
