Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 23rd Dec. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning.
Early start for me. Thought I would nip in to ASDA at 6 and beat the rush top get last minute shopping.
Not bothered with reductions before closing, so it's in out and home for breakfast.
Might then head to the city for some cold Christmas atmosphere and get a present for my potential son in law
Spent a fortune, but don't care..
Ham to cook tonight and a fresh turkey sitting in the cold conservatory for tomorrow. Home reared from eggs hatched in May.
Well have a good Christmas

Morning N9eav & all who cross & follow
Last early get up for me today, what's the betting I'm up at the same time tomorrow, still if I am I'll take a cuppa back to bed.
Hubby has set out for the station with his packup & a tin of HM mince pies to be shared around at work.
Plans for today include knitting & sewing, the house is as clean as it's likely to get, most of the cooking is done, I may do a little ironing as I've been making some of the patchwork cushions shown on the 'Kirstie's Homemade Home' programme & I need to iron them. I've filled some with hops & some with dried chamomile flowers, I can't do any lavender ones as lavender isn't as bulky as hops etc & I haven't any bran to fill them with, anybody have any alternatives to suggest? I've also made some lavender bags for my DD, I just need to add some embellishments.
Hugs to those in need.
Keep safe & warm everyone.
Hugs Hester

Hi everyone. Early rise for me, too; I've been asked to run the tearoom at lunchtime on the farm nearby - they're rushed off their feet getting all the turkeys, ducks and geese ready for collection this week. They can't believe how busy they've been; the orders have been coming in thick and fast. Although we're having Christmas dinner at DH's aunty and uncle's house, I still seem to have loads to do. and I can't believe it's Christmas Eve already!
It's cold here and, yesterday, it tried to snow but didn't get further than a few flakes, so I don't think we're in for a white one this year. Last night, we drove down to our nearest town to look at all the Christmas lights; they only turn them on in the evenings which seems a waste because it was so cold and, with all the shops closed, there was no-one about to see them apart from those brave souls who ventured out. It was such a gloomy wet day yesterday that having the lights on during the daytime would have really brightened things up. I wonder how many children get to see them all lit up?
Anyway, dinner tonight is undecided - depends what time I get in from the farm. If it's too late, it will be something easy like a fry-up. Come to think of it, it WILL be a fry-up - nice and easy, not too much fussing about, and something that DH can do without too much instruction!
Have a great day, everyone.

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;

In my calendar - Santa's On His Way.
Morning :santa2:
Santa? Nooooooooooo - it's Father Christmas.
Pollys and Molly, please take it easy
Has everyone who was travelling made it home? Hope so.
I've just seen a beautiful fox in the garden. I won't think it's so lovely when I let the girls out, I'll go and spray some Stay Off on the fences in a minute. I'll shut the girls in the greenhouses during the next few days, til I know the fox has gone.
The gammon is cooked to perfection, even if I do say so myself
The kitchen table is going to be groaning with food today, we have family coming round. The beer and wine are in the garden (no room in the fridge). I have to chop some salad, grate some cheese, bake some potatoes, slice the cake, dig around in the freezer for the sausage rolls, mini pizzas, etc, and the most important thing - open the tin of Roses
I'd better go turn the oven on.
Have a lovely Christmas :xmassign: :rudolf: :snow_laug :xmassmile :snow_grin :santa2: :xmastree:Bulletproof0 -
Morning folks - another early one for me too. Don't need to do anything but will wander into the city to stretch the old legs and get the lungs working again. Will visit a couple of friends to sip a sherry or two.
Have decided not to travel north for Christmas but will aim for New Year (which is much more important really!).
Food stocks are high.
Booze stocks are high.
Festive spirit stocks are high.
All systems go - hope everyone has a jolly old time and that juggling food, relatives and mountains of paper don't dampen the day.0 -
Good Morning All
Yes, busy day for me too. Off in a while to M&S for a couple of bits and a wander round town for a couple of last minute presents. then pick up the turkey on the way home.
Once home have masses of wrapping to do, housework, sausage rolls to make and stuffing balls. This is my most disorganised year ever but will get there in the end.
In case I can't get back hope you Ostlyrs have a most Wonderful Christmas :snow_laug:xmassmile0 -

Hello OS Friends,
I promise that I am taking it easy. Kids Dad has been wonderful and is doing all the running around. DD has also come into her element. She said she has new respect for parents organising christmas as she has stepped in for me as regards lots of jobs.
We are almost there now. Still have some wrapping but that will be done this morning. I need to motivate my two youngest sons as we need some cleaning done and guinea piggies need cleaning out! The plan for the afternoon is to lie on the sofa and direct operations in the kitchen . We need to make a trifle, prep the vegs and make a sponge cake as kids dont like christmas cake. Well I say we - it will be he with me shouting instructions. We could fall out big time over this!
:rudolf::xmassmile:snow_laug :rudolf: I wish you all a very merry christmas and a happy and healthy new year :rudolf::xmassmile:snow_laug :rudolf::I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning folks!
Feeling very jolly and festive now having read your posts:snow_laug. Except for the bit about Hester's DH - hope he gets on the train.
Tru - another thanks here for posting the carols - I sing the bit each day. You do us good you know! I also love the 'in my calendar...' It reminds me of Playschool and 'through the round window...' Anyway, it is most definitely Santa rather than Father Christmas up here in the north so maybe that's where your advent calendar was made!!:santa2:
I have to venture out for one more pressie and will also pop into M&S or somewhere for a bottle of wine as i think we 'need' another bottle. Am def avoiding supermarkets now though.
DS coming through from Glasgow today and DD coming from across the park - I'm lucky she lives so close. We went round to DD's and her BF's flat last night for a lovely steak pie and mulled wine meal. Yum. My sister and her DH + DS had arrived as well so it was lovely to see them before they head further north for Christmas.
Right -off to get some slap on and get to the shops before it's too busy. Might be home by 10 :cheesy:
