Passed ESA medical assessment only valid for 6 months?

Not strictly true. You can claim either benefit if you work under 16 hours a week. For ESA this requires that you have a limited capability for work, for JSA this does not apply. Also if you claim ESA and are placed in the Work related activity group you are expected to take steps towards preparing for a return to work. The borders between the two have some considerable overlap.petrolhead. wrote: »well if you are thinking that you are better off claiming JSA, why on earth are you claiming ESA?
You are either too unfit to do any work, or fit and able to look for it. There is no middle ground!0 -
The the time between the assessments ranges between 3 months and 2 years.
claimants put in support group are assessed evey 2 years?
claimants put in work related group are assessed every 3 months?
so does it means it all depends on the claimant and theres no set guidelines on reassesment periods for types of conditions people suffering from?0 -
it takes them 3 months to make a desicion at the moment :rotfl::rotfl:so its every 3 months for a medical assessment regardless which group you in?

No claimants in the work related group are reassessed at a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 2 years.0 -
The government are the ones that are wanting more regular testing. Your hatred of ATOS clouds your judgement on that. Only the most serious illnesses are being reassessed every two years.
The government (and previous one) want it, but it's atos that put the recommendation forward in each case, and as so called medical professionals, they should in no way be influenced by what a government wants - their job is to recommend based on medical facts only, not government wishes.
However, they ignore medical facts, and go by what the government wants.
If they were professional, it would not matter what the government wanted, they would refuse to give a medically incorrect or medically unrealistic renewal date for assessment on purpose.[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -

i still dont understand. so theres no guidelines on assessment renewal dates?
so it all depends on the claimant individually?0 -

And so it does! Well not really, ATOS give an opinion after the assessment when they consider it relevant to re-test.
In a simple way, they consider that whatever is wrong with you will have disappeared by that date!!
So somebody suffering from an incurable disease that will only get worse with time, but yet does allow some work to be carried out in the meantime, could find that by the miracle of powerful thought projection (originating from ATOS), is almost cured in the time frame that they have so carefully calculated!!!
And if you believe that you must believe in little green men with big eyes and heads that came from planet Zog and are now living in Milton Keynes (27th roundabout - turn sharp right then first left) - well that's what my factory fitted sat nav in my alfa romeo says!!!0 -
Its like a game between 2 children to decide who plays in goal.
He shouts heads, but it comes up tails, so immediately says "best of three!"0 -

I like that and it seems to be so true!!
If the first test doesn't give the government the right result keep on re-testing until it does!!
