Purely out of interest, how long would you advise allowing a child to not eat before 'pandering' to them as you said in an earlier post?

Obviously you'd look at your child, what size they started at, what they were eating etc into account. NO child will starve overnight. It's common sense surely!

Most children would eat something, and for many a few days would be enough to change their eating habits.

But no parent would watch their child starve to death and not seek medical advice. As soon as a child started to actually noticeably lose weight I would be straight to the GP.

But for the majority of children, not offering them alternatives would work. In would only be one or two who had other issues that would need medical help, for the majority it is a parenting issue.

Parents who care enough about what their child is eating care enough to not let their child starve to death, and know when to seek help.

Unfortunately some children do starve themselves. My son didn't feel hunger. Thankfully I listened to the advice of a health professional.

Obviously i meant any normal child wouldnt starve itself, and it doesnt sound the case with the ops child as he eats...but if she has doubts she should take him to the drs.

Yes its common sense, and down to parenting issues usually.

Could you try a little reverse psychology? 'You might not like this because it's grown up food' always used to work on me...

My oldest daughter wouldnt eat things with bits in until she was about 3, seemed to live on smooth yoghurts, mashed potato etc, now both of them eat everything!! I wouldn't worry about it, as long as your child is getting some fruit, some veg etc. Incidentally, my dad never feels hungry either, and would forget to eat unless my mam reminded him!!
  • Pixie if you have a dyspraxic son then even if your 4 yr old doesn't have it he may still have aspects of dyspraxia/ Aspergers. There is dyspraxia in my family and it was my first thought when reading your op. I was extremely fussy as a child but grew out of it at 16, my sister's children are extremely picky. Only you can know whether it feels like normal behaviour or not as it can be hard to describe the difference in intensity.
