I had one of my Grandson's and my Grandaughter round today for a while. The boy asked if he could play on the Playstation so I said he could go and choose a game out of the cupboard and he found some cross stitch sewing sets in there. They are the kind where the picture is drawn on the fabric already like a paint by numbers thing. He brought them in and asked could they do these instead so I sat and started them off, neither has sewn before lol. The boy was doing rows of just a diagonal stitch, didnt show him cross stitch as thought it was a bit much. Grandaughter was just doing any old stitches but I told her to make them tiny and keep within the black lines like when colouring.
Would you believe they both sat for nearly three hours without a peep except when they run out of thread lol. I have put the master pieces away until next time they come round. Said to them they might finish them off in time to give to their Mum for Mothers Day.
Havent done any crafting my self, been supervising the little ones and also my daughter who has only today left to finish her art project. She did really well today and got a big chunk of it done so I have let her go out for a couple of hours and she can finish it off when she gets home tonight.0 -
Good Evening Ladies, Welcome to all the new ladies. Please join in as much as you can. all suggestions greatly appreciated
Thanks for the craft link, thats a good idea.
I had a Toyota sewing machine since I was 11, so it was 25yrs old. I got a new one, but as I dont use it enough to warrant something very expensive, I got the one that lidls were selling recently. Its smooth, and has lots of different stitches, and I plan to use it more this year.
Would like a guide to making a nice quilt and where to get "CHEAP" fabrics from. Help from all you experts out there is greatly appreciated.
I did another Vista order, but when I went through quidco, it put the price up.SO had to do it all again................ I got a fabric bag for DD to put up in nursery, with her slippers on it, a photobook with all the xmas photos in, a pen with my friends name on it, and a note bad. I will stock a lot of these up for birthdays and christmas. I think I was 9.00 all in.
I went to hobbycraft today and got some sugarpaste to make DD's birthday cake. also got her a nice card, but no decent gift bags and I cant find the speacial one I got for her!!!! Lost in the cupboard somewhere.
Cheap is one thing that quilting isn't, it's not like the old days when it was cutting up old clothes - but that's not to say it couldn't be done that way again
I want the quilting dies for the sizzix machine, then I can mass produce hexagons and sell them to all my quilty friends coz the more affluent among them have taken to buying pre cut hexagons from quilting shops.
Just off to fat club, will be back with the bad news on the other thread.
But I will have to read about the visa print thing when i come back - sounds like it could be a plan.
And
is there an MSE quilt thread? No pun intended0 -

Extra 20% discount at checkout up until the end of tomorrow.
Just sewing squares together should not be too difficult, but if you plan on quilting/patchworking on a regular basis, you will need to invest in a 1/4 inch foot, and possibly a walking foot (for machine quilting) as all patterns will tell you to use a quarter inch seam, so you should check these are available to fit the machine before you buy one - personally I'm hankering after one of these.

Maryop Thankyou for starting the other thread. It is an extremely useful idea.I hope your husband is on the mend and hope you are well.
The sewing machine I will be using for my crafts is one tea leafed from my mum with her permission.Im gutted coz the one I want is £40.But money I dont have at the moment.Cant remember the name of it.My friend has just got one for Xmas but I found it on line same price but with a sewing kit with bobbins inc for free.
And just a general statement or I wouldnt be me.I cant believe I thought I would out do myself and baste my gammon joint.I had been watching a programme that said, dont waste money n loads of extras to coat your join.Mustard and brown sugar will do the job.So I did .And kept drizzling it over. And after an hour, noticed it had a ring of paper round it.So guess what I had been basting?Arrgghhh. No wonder I just by chops ,lol.SWAGBUCKS Nov 17sbs redeemed; 2 x £5 Amazon

That's a really good price, and probably a good little machine as well, because I'm pretty sure it is the one they've been selling on Create and Craft. I seem to recall them insinuating that it was made by one of the top brands, but sold under the Coopers name.
Hope you get on well with it.0 -
hello Ladies
I joined for a bit last year for my good intentions and fell off the bandwagon as OH and I were moving into our new house for the first time and did not get internet access for a good few months after wee moved in.
So I am begging to be accepted again lol
We were smart and picked up some Christmas decorations back in Jan 2010 however had to buy more as did not match my colour scheme lol.
Got some bargin decorations in Asda a few days before Christmas as well as some outside lights too.
I thought that we were going to have a very bare Christmas however my work had some serious overtime and worked all the extra hours that I could so that helped us out a bit.
Bought 6 rolls of 10 m paper for next year in semi chem for 49p each -Bargin as well as Xmas cards out of Next.
Will wait for the 75% in boots to come to get some mothers day and father days gifts.
OH bought me a sewing machine so this could be interesting with what I come up with lol.
All decorations came down yesterday as I was back to work today but got sent home early as it was very quiet.
On back shift tomorrow so I will sign back on in the morning.0 -
Well folks - I've done a "free" vistaprint order, but somehow during the checkout process, got a little bit confused and ended up ordering 500 business cards that say "Hand Crafted Cards".
Guess I'd best get crafting by hand - ooops
But I did get a free pen, a rubber stamp, and let's not forget the bumper sticker for the car I don't have!!!!!! I also went for the 21 day delivery and cashback via TCB, so if that comes through, will only have to sell one or two cards to be money neutral:j0
