Yeah...I would be getting free samples from her for the next few years to make myself a free one....lol
What is the best sewing machine for someone very new to it, who can barely sew in a straight line????
My sewing machine brand of choice would always be Janome (used to be New Home)- try Coopers Sewing Machines
http://www.sewingmachinediscount.co.uk/xmas-sale/1.htm
Extra 20% discount at checkout up until the end of tomorrow.
Just sewing squares together should not be too difficult, but if you plan on quilting/patchworking on a regular basis, you will need to invest in a 1/4 inch foot, and possibly a walking foot (for machine quilting) as all patterns will tell you to use a quarter inch seam, so you should check these are available to fit the machine before you buy one - personally I'm hankering after one of these.

Hello all :j
Ddraig - thanks for putting tutorial link up..........I started it before christmas.......thought it would be useful to have them all in the same place.
nellis.............good luck with the sewing machine. Last one I had was grans old table top singer............it was brilliant then went wrong and I couldn't find anyone to fix it. Eyesights not as good as it was then so now its a case of sewing by hand which I don't mind. Just limits me a bit to what I can do.
Well after a rough nights sleep with my back playing up all I've done today is make a card that can be either for birthday or Mums day........cleaner phoned to ask when I needed her this week...Thursday suits her best so decs will come down Wednesday and any bits of tinsel can get hoovered up.
Be nice to get back to normal:)I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

And that's why it's going to stop at hankering after. I'm not going to buy anything, ever again, although, the price on that is nothing compared to this.......

I'll see what I can find for you on quilting - there are lots of very good resources out there for free. I have to say that the majority of quilters are some of the most generous people I've ever had the pleasure to meet.
Present company would fit right in xxx0 -
Georgie I wouldn't mind one of those too. I've made curtains and quilts etc - but I can only sew a straight (ish) line, but as only I know it's wonky it's fine.
I saw some lovely cushions today in BHS. If was a plain cushion. The it had rows of circles along the front in rows. The circles were folded into the centre and sewn along a straight line, side by side, to hold the folds in place. It looked like lots of rows of fortune cookies (that was the shape once folded) and so simple even I could do it. I would need material cut into circles that wouldn't fray through, that would be the hard part.

Georgie, I love quilting too, I usually quilt by hand. I had lessons at a shop not far from us and I am now on my 14th quilt. I agree there are loads of helpful sites on the internet about quilting, there are also some lovely books about for beginners.
Ddraig - do you have a shop near you that sells craft books? If so you could always have a look at some of them about quilting and have a read up and see if there is one you like that looks easy enough. I will pm you anyway xx0 -
You beat me to it rufus. LOL
I was just about to post that you were the resident quilter. If you have a special book that easy to understand, please could you let me know too. I bought loads of Laura Ashley squares off ebay to make something for DD, but never not around to it before CHristmas.

I am another one who would love to make a quilt and am completely clueless:rotfl: I started cutting out shapes when I was about 15 but never did anything with them! I would love any info on quilt making.
I am useless at sewing and haven't a clue how to use a sewing machine:( my excuse is I went to school in France and we didn't do needlework so never learnt the basics. my ds1 is in year 7 and doing textiles at the moment so maybe he can teach me:D
I placed my first vistaprint order today:j I got a mug, pen, rubber stamp and stickers for my ds2's best friend's birthday. he has an unusual name so can't buy personalised things in the shops. hopefully he will be pleased with them.saving for ds2's summer international scout camp - £200

Good Evening Ladies, Welcome to all the new ladies. Please join in as much as you can. all suggestions greatly appreciated
Thanks for the craft link, thats a good idea.
I had a Toyota sewing machine since I was 11, so it was 25yrs old. I got a new one, but as I dont use it enough to warrant something very expensive, I got the one that lidls were selling recently. Its smooth, and has lots of different stitches, and I plan to use it more this year.
Would like a guide to making a nice quilt and where to get "CHEAP" fabrics from. Help from all you experts out there is greatly appreciated.
I did another Vista order, but when I went through quidco, it put the price up.SO had to do it all again................ I got a fabric bag for DD to put up in nursery, with her slippers on it, a photobook with all the xmas photos in, a pen with my friends name on it, and a note bad. I will stock a lot of these up for birthdays and christmas. I think I was 9.00 all in.
I went to hobbycraft today and got some sugarpaste to make DD's birthday cake. also got her a nice card, but no decent gift bags and I cant find the speacial one I got for her!!!! Lost in the cupboard somewhere.Saving 2.00 coinsGrocerys set to 40.00 pwBeing Thrifty0
