Its disgusting isn't it?
I know its no small comfort but be thankful you arent in Scotland or the Midlands - some of those poor sods are paying over 80p a litre
Fingers crossed that my stove will keep the house warm enough that my oil will keep me going to Feb when the prices should come back down a wee bit0 -
Yes be thankful you have had oil delivered at all - I ordered over 3 weeks ago (at 60pl) and it still has not arrived! I'm being told it wont be till next week now and I am about to run out so it's going to be a very cold Christmas! Plus they took the money 2 weeks ago!0

I ordered my oil on the 14th of december, came on the 17th december, 53p a litre.
Was told we got prioiriy because it was a new system2x £5 JD Voucher
I want my Sledge Book & DVD0 -
Placed my order on 8th, 62p/litre. Money cleared frorm account on that day and still no delivery. Company keep giving me false hope, I have now had 3 promised delivery dates and still no oil. Think I may ask if I can go and collect myself as I believe they can fill 25 litre canisters for you, it's either that are no heating and up here in scotland it is freezing.0

I am the same Gill. I had to prepay at 67p per litre go and buy 25l gerrycans and go to a local supplier as I have been let down twice by my supplier, now the date I have been given is 'after the New Year'... I will never use this company again. I am based in Central Scotland.0 -
I ordered 500 Litres on the 8/12 and it arrived on the 23/12. 71.23 pence per litre though.
Ridiculous as I ordered 1000 Litres in October and only paid 42.46 a litre. That's a 40% increase in two months. If that happened with electric or gas people would be campaigning on the streets.
I think it's time the government regulated heating oil the same as they do with gas and electric through Ofgem. At the moment these oil companies are just profiteering because they know they have you by the short and curlies!0 -

There are definately some issues around regulation of heating oil. Many (most?) people on oil seem to be so because there is little or no choice to switch to gas. Where I live, there is a gas main at the house behind mine - but the gas company want over 10k to connect me up, so for now unless I want to pay out, I'm staying on oil.
I found this doc on the web which discussed heating oil on 17 Dec. The general comment here seems to be that although OFGEM don't regulate oil, people can complain to the OFT and if enough complaints are registered the OFT can look at anti-competition regulation.

Thanks for that link. I will pass it on to my MP as she was unable to give me any comment yet this document was published by the House of Commons. Jezz, makes me wonder what she does all day. Probably busy filling in expense claims0 -

Many thanks for this link, PhoneGuru. Very useful.
But also the statement by Chris Huhne, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change (section 3.2) is wrong I think about LPG - which had a Competition Commission investigation:
There have recently been changes to address issues in the LPG market. As a result of concerns about competition in the market for domestic bulk LPG, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) made a market investigation reference to the Competition Commission (CC) in July 2004. In June 2006, the CC published a report which said that difficulties in switching supplier have inhibited competition. The CC has subsequently devised a package of remedies and has imposed them through two Orders on the industry. The changes were intended to make it easier to switch supplier, and to address the issue of price transparency, as LPG suppliers are required by Orders to provide price quotes on their web sites and by telephone to consumers. The two Orders implementing these remedies have now come into force, and the OFT is monitoring their effectiveness. (my bold)
No, I believe they only have to give quotes by phone. Only ONE company - Extra Gas ( http://www.extrafuel.co.uk/ ) gives an on-line price, valid for that month. For all the others you haggle a starting price - which is usually less than the accepted retail price - and try to ensure your 2 year contract (yes, you CANNOT shop around with LPG) includes a max price rise rate. We know Flogas is charging one user 30ppl at the same time as another is charged 68ppl!
So, if you've got this far, please support LPG users by adding your thanks to a Moneyfesto post

Martin Lewis says he'll take up the best supported moneyfesto ideas with top MPs, regulators, etc. And, yes, if heating oil users want to post a moneyfesto I'm sure a lot of LPG users will support you. We're in similar boats (MV Ripped Off - maybe?).
Here's for a better 2011 with our heating suppliers!
