No, I believe they only have to give quotes by phone. Only ONE company - Extra Gas ( http://www.extrafuel.co.uk/ ) gives an on-line price, valid for that month. For all the others you haggle a starting price - which is usually less than the accepted retail price - and try to ensure your 2 year contract (yes, you CANNOT shop around with LPG) includes a max price rise rate. We know Flogas is charging one user 30ppl at the same time as another is charged 68ppl!
So, if you've got this far, please support LPG users by adding your thanks to a Moneyfesto post

Martin Lewis says he'll take up the best supported moneyfesto ideas with top MPs, regulators, etc. And, yes, if heating oil users want to post a moneyfesto I'm sure a lot of LPG users will support you. We're in similar boats (MV Ripped Off - maybe?).
Here's for a better 2011 with our heating suppliers!
Thanks for the info on LPG, I thought the statement in the document may be dubious but wasn't aware of the facts.
A moneyfesto post is a good idea, I've created one at the link below (maybe it should be combined with LPG).

Presently my LPG is I think 48 ppl (might be less not more)they (Energas) have put a 5p surcharge (IE now 48ppl) on which they are going to remove when conditions get better??? A friend was just offered oil at 90ppl for a 2 day delivery and i think 80ppl for a 2 week delivery. As LPG has to be 30% cheaper to be equal to oil thats seems a hell of a lot better. Oil supplier jump there prices much higher when there is a surge in demand. Top up early.0

We are looking into getting mains gas now. There was never any mains in our road but 2 years ago our neighbour managed to get a mains supply to his house. Must have cost him a fortune because he's 500 yards away from the nearest gas main.
When I last looked into it with oil around 40p a litre it wasn't worth doing as we would only save about £250 a year. But if prices stay around the 71p mark it would only take 3 years to pay for itself. Plus I can sell my old boiler and oil tank for about £350'ish. That's what they seem to be making on ebay.
Trouble is you can never tell what's going to happen to the prices but now oil companies have got away with charging 70-80p a litre they know they can get away with it. I think long gone are the days of 40p a litre.
It all hinges on how much I will have to pay to get mains gas the extra 100 yards up the road to me.0 -

Bingo, I doubt we will see prices come back below 50-55p ever again now. I luckily ordered 1000litres back on the 18th November (just before the price started going through the roof) and that should be enough to see us till the end of March. Hopefully by then it will have dropped some way below the ridiculous price they are asking for now. Problem now though is that with the extended delivery dates given from date of order I'll need to order at the end of February when we will more than likely still be in the grips of Winter and they will still be using that as an excuse to charge the earth.0 -
Oil price increase - wow
7 weeks ago we had 1000L of heating oil delivered for 481.95 inc vat. Looks like that will last us 8 weeks so ordered another lot for next week quote - 711.90 inc vat for 1000L from the same supplier.
Went with 500l for now in the hope that it will come down a bit - but 68.50 a litre.
A 32% increase:mad:Snootchie Bootchies!0 -
My local supplier quoted 76ppl,so I cancelled the order. They turned up anyway and put 500l in my tank,so I called them and told them to come and pump it out...........guess what, they sold it to me for 52ppl................shows how much room they have to alter the price!Debt-free...and staying that way...0

Disgusting that and they aint selling that at a loss at 52ppl that's for sure. Pure profiteering. Of course though as it's relatively few 'voters' who use oil in the grand scheme of things, the MP's/Government wont kick up a fuss about it. Oh they will make a few grumbles to keep us happy but in reality sod all will be done about it. So us Oil users can just carry on bending over and clenching our teeth come ordering time.
You should maybe send that story to a National paper as well.0 -
I am so angry about the price hike in oil over the last 2 months and am now trying to form an oil buying group. any help gratefully received.0

The nearest relative to Home heating oil in the oil 'Family' is aviation fuel, but as this is sold by the tonne at airfields it's not possible to compare prices between the two
BUT
Road Diesel from your local garage is also a close relative, so a price comparision between it and Heating Oil is valid
Look at your cheapest local forecourt price of Diesel with a 20 mile radius. My best price at the moment is 128.9 from Asda so:
128.8p less VAT @ 20% = 107.416p. Now deduct the present rate of Road Fuel Duty of 58.95p which gives the net price of Diesel as 48.466p, and this is the fair Ex 5% VAT price I should be paying for my Heating Oil
I've used this formula for years and whilst there is always a bit of argy bargy with the 5 local suppliers I phone for a price on each fill-up, I always get the formula price within -/+ 0.5 of a penny from at least 2 of them.
Thank heavens the Boiler Juice scam has been blown - I used to include them in my phone-for-a-price list, but found they were consistently beaten by most of the other 5 on my list, so gave up on them. The message has to be: Phone every supplier in your area for a price0 -
Got my quote for a new gas main to the house, £5000. Looks likes it's a no go. The payback would be about 7 years and I don't anticipate living in the house for that long.0
