As you are but replace the Coleman's packet with an Oxo cube, half a tea spoon of sugar, a heaped tea spoon of chilli powder and a flat teaspoon of chocolate powder.0

I use this recipe but up the spices, and add some smoked paprika too. I also like to add a tin of black-eye beans as well as the kidney beans. It bulks it out a bit more, adds a bit more interest and I like the flavour0

I like carrots added to mine for bulk and sweetness. Also lentils are lovely in a chilli.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

I use celery and garlic in with the onion when its fried. Then cumin, cayenne pepper and fresh chilli if I have one (in which case less cayenne) dried oregano and a cinnamon stick. Tom puree and tinned toms. Cook for as long as poss, add kidney beans and a chopped pepper half and hour before end. If I'm feeling flash a square or 2 of dark choc just before serving.People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I use something similar to the original recipe but instead of a packet mix i use black peppercorns, tobasco sauce and chilli powder.
I like chilli just as much, if not more so, with pasta instead of rice so if you ever fancy a chilli (or curry) but dont have any rice then use pasta instead:cool:0 -
I make veggie chilli by using veggie mince but the principle will be the same. For flavouring I always add onion, garlic, chilli powder and some onion gravy granules (made up) and some tomato puree. If I have it or if I feel like it, I add paprika, fresh chillis, red wine..
You can bulk out by adding mushroom or peppers which help make it tasty or by throwing in a handful of red lentils.
Taking notes of the suggestions to add chocolate/chocolate powder... interesting and will give it a try.
Happy experimenting.

This is similar to what I do, near then end of cooking I add 1 teaspoon of brown sugar and a tablespoon of cider vinegar when I add the kidney beans. Never heard of putting chocolate in though, I am intrigued.
I never use packet sauces, they are just so easy to make at home.0 -
I love chilli and I would usually use:
onion (maybe 2)
1lb mince (i use the super super lean stuff as we're dieting!)
1 carrot (grated)
green pepper, chopped (if i have one!)
2 or 3 tins tomatoes
couple of tablespoons tomato puree
glug of red wine if there's any open (just buy really cheap stuff for cooking)
glug of balsamic vinegar (gives a lovely sweetness)
I use lazy chilli (in a jar made my EPC - in the supermarket) but you could use chilli powder, fresh or dried chillis
tin of kidney beans (just the value ones)
I often also add a handful of oats to bulk it out a bit more.
