the songs a good idea but it kind of gives it away that you knew.
I always like to suprise my husband at xmas and the best present for me he seeing him happy so practice your suprise face.
I think the spa idea is a great idea.
asking you to marry you is nice but you are taking her limelight. I think a eternity ring engraved would be nicer.
you know her better than anyone you need to show it here by picking a present you know she will love. don't try to match her in price just got for knowing her and she will be over the moon0 -
I heard recently about a guy who came up with a really good clutter free present for his sister. He wrote her a promise to be a chauffeur to drive her round the shops so that she could do the sales after Christmas, and to carry all her shopping bags, take her out to lunch/tea etc, take her home afterwards. I wonder if something like that, plus spending money would work? I'd leap at the thought of shopping without having to drive or find parking or carry anything! Spending money would be a bonus.0

Oh god..please NOT a spa day!!! It's so predictable! Why do guys think all girls like to parade in their underwear and have red-hot towels pressed on their face??
A Spa day is the ultimate "I didn't know what to get you, so there ya go" present.
Ugh! Put some thought into it, people - please!
Oh, and an eternity ring??? Not unless you want to see her face go from shocked to happy, then to "Fake relieved" when you tell her you're not really proposing, then to plastered on "fake smile", to the first comment about your family/your snoring/your fat !!!!.
It could destroy you!!! Don't do it.0 -
I know you're joking but I have thought about it from time to time but she has a big downer on marriage so it probably would make her uncomfortable.
We're going to Rome for a long weekend next March but I might be able to arrange something else on top.
Thanks.
I had a big downer on marrige.. then now hubby presented me with a diamond and said he would love me forever !!"Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.":beer:0 -
i have no idea what she has bought you sorry ....but you need to buy her something because you love her it shouldnt matter if it cost £1 or £1million pounds the fact that you put thought and effort into it show you love her enough and if push comes to shove buy her a euro millions ticket - they are making 25 millionaires in the uk this week that will be the best £2 you ever spent lol

I too would not be delighted with a spa day. I don't like being still and I don't like being touched by strangers. Live the idea of a shopping chauffeur. I need to get me one of those, but no whining please driver! I personally would love a nice leather photo album, photo printer and cartridges to get all my pics out of the ether and in a format I can enjoy them.Debt free as of July 2010 :j

Thanks.
I was a bit reluctant to do something overly extravagant because it might be too obvious that I found out. Obviously, she's having it shipped to her work address because she doesn't want me to find it.
I thought a Spa Day might be a nice surprise and then I can do something a little sentimental for her a little later.
One other thought I have is that she loves the song November Rain... if I could teach myself one or both of the solos from that in the next three days perhaps that might make her happy... she doesn't know what I can and can't play. Well she knows some of the things I can play... Might be nice if I can play one of her favourite songs for her on her present to me.
That is a fab idea, very subtle but it will mean something to her0 -
If you DO buy her a spa day, buy it for two people. Then she can take a friend, or even you. Not all women are happy doing stuff like that on their own, a visit to the beautician yes, a whole day somewhere, no.
However, I would go down a more sentimental route that potentially doesn't cost anything. Sorry but the learning of November Rain idea just makes me want to puke, but then I feel that way about organised first dances at weddings and stuff. You know her best re stuff like that.
I would wrack my brains to think of any little thing she has mentioned over time that she likes. A fave film from childhood on DVD maybe.0 -

The problem with jewelery though is that her birthday was in Sept and I bought her a gold and sapphire necklace then so I don't know whether buying more jewelery would seem a little formulaic.tinkerbellsmum wrote: »the songs a good idea but it kind of gives it away that you knew.
Well I was thinking with the song that she doesn't actually know that I can't play it, just that she has never heard me play it. I'm a little shy when it comes to playing guitar in front of her, so she doesn't know everything I can play.Oh god..please NOT a spa day!!! It's so predictable! Well to be fair, I do know that my partner does enjoy going to a spa, and while I fear it may be a little cliche it isn't exactly predictable if I haven't done it in all the years I have known her, is it?Broomstick wrote: »I heard recently about a guy who came up with a really good clutter free present for his sister. I have to hand it to that guy, he's more inventive than I am.vodooelephant wrote: »I had a big downer on marrige.. then now hubby presented me with a diamond and said he would love me forever !!
Well, I'm not going to go into it, because that wouldn't be right, but my partner has deep-seated reasons for disliking marriage, unfortunately.
BUT while sitting here rabbiting away I have had an epiphany! My girlfriend is very fond of sapphires and is also very fond of wolves, so some sort of sapphire encrusted photo frame (I believe the jewellers in town sell them) and photographic art of a wolf might be in order.0 -
It may have been a prank call set up by your other half, she may have gotten a friend or work colleague to call you, to wind you up. You might just get socks......0
